Chapter 36: Theo

Tension pricked at my skin as I waited for his answer because if he said “‘no,” I wasn’t sure how I was going to react. I still had unfinished business with Mac, but it felt like there was no going down that path alone, even if I was curious where it would lead. The three of us were tightly tangled together, as unexpected and complicated as it all was.

Surprisingly, Klein didn’t deflect or blatantly lie when he finally replied with a softly spoken, “I think so.” Maybe he was brave because he couldn’t see me or my reaction to his words.

A chill shot up my spine as I whipped my head around to look at Mac. He leaned forward in the velvet-covered seat and crossed his arms over the seat in front of him. Even from this distance, I could make out the anticipation in his gaze. I could feel it pressing on me.
