Chapter eleven: Difference

"for making this day so much fun for me. I can't remember the last time I was so happy. I really needed this much of a break."

"me too...Im glad I've spent my day with you." y/n slightly blushed in his words. Come to think of it, she never imagined she could spend time with him. she never dared to approach such a person. after that embarrassing moment in the morning, she spent his whole day with thomas. He was by her side the whole time. he made her happy again.

Just then, The reality started to hit. The day was a miracle she'll never see again. It will only remain in her memory as the first and last. they had different lifestyle from each other. she was afraid she didn't deserve him.

Thomas noticed her sulking. he gently holds her hand. "I felt lonely too. I struggled on my own. No one was there to encourage me. Instead of my hard work...they only looked up to the result." the other was now all quiet while hearing him open up. She could tell it wasnt easy for him to do so.  "my family is a mess. they felt proud when my name was all over the places. But the next day they pretended like I dont exist...Im a failure to them."

y/n patted his hand as he struggled to say more. the words were burden to him. He had never opened up to anyone before. He was now relaxed and calm. "I was alone the whole time. so...thanks... for staying." he looked back at her with teary eyes and smiled. she smiled back.

Just then, the fireworks started. It turned into a beautiful sight to behold. The sky was bursting with colors and shapes. It was the only thing they could hear and the world went quiet. y/n subconsiously leans her head down on his shoulder, she felt safe and warm. thomas noticed it but didnt want to ruin it. they stared at the sky.

After the tiring day, they parted ways. y/n walked back to her room. the spot was sure reminding her of the scene happened in the morning. But she didnt let it bother her too much. Instead she laid down on bed and kept going through her memories with thomas. how they walked around while holding hands, how they laughted and enjoyed the fireworks. she slowly drifted off to her dreamland.

In the morning, she woke up with a loud voice shouting her name from downstairs. She could tell it was her father but what could be his reason for shouting like this.

she walked down the stairs. Her impatient father was waiting for her there. He looked angry and upset. His eyes were staring at her furiously.

Once she arrived, he grabbed her hand tightly and tried to pull her out of the house ."Come with me!"

y/n pushed him away, "where are you taking me?!?", she almost shouted. her dad lost his cool and slapped her. The room went quiet. "How dare you send him to the police for this small reason!!!", he shouted on her face.

"Small?" she repeated. The fear in her eyes was replaced with the same amount of anger. "You've hit your daughter for that crazy friend of yours!" before her dad could reply back with more words, she continued to speak, "He tried to force me! Im your daughter FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!"

The look on her father's face was still the same. he stared at her with rage. he again tried to drag her out "you're gonna come with me and free him out."

"I WON'T!" she freed herself from his grip and ran up to her room, closing the door behindn. Her legs gave up and she knelt on the ground. her own father was starting to treat her like a trash. It was the first time she ever shouted at him like this.

There was a loud knock on the door. He yelled at her to open the door. It continued until he decided to lock her up. "Stay inside until you're willing to free him out!!", He shouted for the last time and left

y/n tried to open the door but it was locked from the other side. her hand slipped down from the door. She laid down on the floor, wrapping herself around tightly.

Hours passed but there was no sign of her father. she kept waiting but he never came.

It was almost sunset. she slowly got up and found herself on the floor. What happened was slowly starting to hurt her. she quickly reached the door. It was surprisingly open.

maybe her dad at last felt bad and decided to unlock her. but still, she wasnt ready to face him again. After everything he said to her, all she wanted to do was not even think of him.

she quickly put on her jacket and left the house. she knew her work hours had ended  but she still wanted to reach the store.

the door opened and Miles came into her view. He looked lost in his thoughts. Just when the bell rang, he looked up to the door and noticed her. The expression on his face was still the same, cold and...dissappointed.

y/n knew she had a lot to explain. just then, her words were replaced with his, "you're fired."

"What-"

"I can't keep you here. You have no idea of your responsibility. You have been missing for two days. "

"I can explain-"

"Leave! I dont want you here anymore. you've taken our friendship as a joke. "

"hear me out first-"

"do you seduce guys like this? with that innocent look of yours."

"Enough!" the room went quiet. Both stared at each other. her sadden eyes were changed in to anger. The cold miles remained the same. she was confused...what happened to the sweet and caring Miles she used to know...Why was he suddenly cursing her like this...

"you're right. I shouldn't have taken our friendship as a replacement of my work.

you had to work hard all alone. I took my job carelessly. I wont make any further excuses and",  she puts down her nameplate on the table "quit." her last words made him flinch a little. did he expect something else?

Just when y/n left the store, Miles sat down and sighed. The cold expression on his face changed with sadness. He gripped his fist tightly.

The day before, Miles and y/n were suppose to visit the fare together. but her phone was out of reach. He called her every minute but it was still unreachable. He kept calling her until he gave up and decided to go alone. that night he heard her voice behind him. "y/n...?" he said and turned around. It was her but she wasnt alone.

Miles found a familliar figure beside her. Someone he knew too well. They were laughting and chatting. He stared at them and clutched his fist. It was suppose to be him making her happy. how did she end up choosing someone else over him... It wasnt the first time Thomas stole his place.

tears welled up in his eyes, "im ...sorry....I cant keep you around any longer...you remind me too much of her."
