The bird finds itself hurt, but alive. Laying in the middle of nowhere, between the trees, it looks at the skies, wondering why it has not joined the many stars that light the world around it. Unwilling to move, unwilling to exist, it stays still, staring.

Its mind has given up. But its body has not. And so it continues, healing along the way, but the ugly scar forever showing. The bird is bound to the earth, always looking at the sky and remembering how it once flew through it, the wind through its feathers. Not anymore.

The bird does not put in any effort to avoid danger. Yet it stays safe. It does not try that hard to find food. Yet it never starves. It does not go out of its way to stay close to water. Yet it doesn't perish.
