Rachel could hear her heart pounding in her ears with every step she took
Her gaze constantly falling on the time on her arm as it slowly dwindled down
Growing more and more anxious as each second passed
Internally hoping and praying that her son would have noticed something was wrong and would be around the next corner
Only for her thoughts to come to a halt as she crashed face first into what felt like a wall
Which confused her as she was sure that she was in the middle of the street
Feeling disoriented from the impact, she stepped back unsteadily only to feel a warm hand around her waist
Raising her head, Rachel froze as she came face to face with the most handsome man she's ever seen, looking at her calmly
" you don't seem to have the time to be staring at my face " Rachel snapped out of her thoughts when she heard the man's words
Following the man's gaze, she instantly grew pale as she looked at the time left
1:10
1:09
1:08
Without bothering to take another look at the man before, Rachel was about to take off running only to be stopped, turning around angrily
Only to freeze as she watched the timer on her hand suddenly stop
Before it started rapidly increasing
Rachel stood in shock as she looked at the century that just appeared on her arm, stiffly raising her head
She looked at the man who gave her this time
He still had the same calm look on his face before he opened his mouth
" take a walk with me and answer a couple of of my questions " said the man, though he started walking and pulled her along before she could reply
" what do you think of this world? " asked the man as he looked at the sky, Rachel found the question weird but payed more attention to trying to free her arm
" it's a task to live in these " said Rachel, after a few seconds, finding it strange that she spoke her true thoughts as she tried to pull her hand away
As if he didn't notice her struggle the, man spoke once again
" a task you say? having eternal beauty, a visible lifespan everything you could want at you finger tips and all you'd need is a little time, doesn't sound that bad, don't you think? " asked the man
Rachel fell silent as she heard the man's words as she thought about her current life, unconsciously reaching up to touch her face
The same face she's had for the past 25 years
" what's the point of eternal beauty if I can't even have a proper meal without wondering if I'd suddenly drop dead in my sleep " replied Rachel self deprecatingly
" don't you find that strange? " asked the man as he finally turned towards her, she froze as she noticed the change in his eyes
' what a beautiful silver ' thought Rachel
" what's strange? " asked Rachel, confused about his question
" I'm sure you know it in your heart, if you hadn't met me you had a high chance of simply dropping dead in the road " hearing his words, Rachel paled as she remembered how no one reached out to give her any assistance
Even if it was just a single minute
" don't you find that strange? a healthy 50 year old woman, suddenly dropping dead in the street all because the timer on her hand said so, don't you find that ridiculous? " asked the man causing Rachel to glance at the time on her arm
Her eyes growing confused
The man continued before she could reply
" why can one man live several millennia while another is scrunting for a single minute or death would be at his door? why can a single clock determine the lives of so many people? " asked the man slowly as he came to a stop
" is what you gained worth what you lost ? "
