Festive drums

There were certain events that Ogar looked forward to. The yam festival was one of them. There would be a lot of display. From the masquerades of the Mgbe society (leopard society) for men to the age-grade meetups, games, moninkim dances, among others.

He loved to sit out in the open air and inhale the fresh air, surrounded by people of his clan. The women will have their display as well. The extra fun is in meeting those who are from neighbouring cities and towns like Calabar, Akampka, Okhangha, Mum, Okunni and the likes. They always had a story or a trend to bring back.

The suya huts Grove was another interesting aspect of the ceremony. You find young men lurking about the corners looking gout for a damsel they had been admiring. The ceremony poses a fertile ground for them to express their feelings. Ogar had especially liked watching them.
