Beautiful Colours in the air

The aroma of asun (goat meat) combat the space with suya (barbequed beef). There were a handful of people, standing in groups, watching the activities around the vicinity. Drummers were beating the drum to which the maidens commonly called "mmon nkim" (female adolescents who have reached the marriageable age) danced. Ogar knew he had been late to the party. The canopies stood, in their colourful glamour, shielding a bulk of those present.

The festival commences with traditional rites. Ogar had seen women, armed on beautiful attires parade with their tubers of yam to the site of the new yam festival ceremony.

The banner swayed in the air as though parading itself in pride to the wind and onlookers. It bore the words: WELCOME TO BAKOR YAM FESTIVAL.
