Six years later
The forest was spattered with color. The trees were strung with beautiful flower garlands and fairy lights that hung between them. The ground was littered with its usual spray of wildflowers, but there were a few petals thrown in as well.
And then, of course, there was the house.
The cottage near Laurier Lake was covered in the same flower garlands that the trees were decorated with, made from the wildflowers growing all around the house. The bent oak tree out in the field was left as it was; the thick curtain of hanging vines was beautiful as it was. The council had spent the entire day before preparing everything, including the carpet leading from the cottage to the altar that was placed underneath the bent oak. Everything was perfect, just as they wanted it to be for their friends.
