Finding a hobby

"Fearless, we soar, speeding arrows ricochet 🎶~. Break free, our hearts, burn brighter than yesterday 🎶~."

I was singing a song from my past life in my room, just to pass time.

It was a free day for me. The Montampes house gives a free day to every servant once a week. Today was currently my free day, but I had nothing to do.

It's been 4 days since I sparred on the training grounds. The following 2 days were me doing my butler duties for Rosaline. Who by the way, is still quiet.

Aside from training and attending the silver-haired brat, I had nothing to do. So far I've spent my free days doing nothing, sometimes singing songs like what I'm doing right now.

"And through battles we wage 🎶~. When our shields fall away 🎶~. The armor cracks and breaks 🎶~. If ever our torches fade 🎶~!"

I could help some of the servants with their own work. Like maybe help Mr. Hause with tending the garden. But nah. It's my free day! Why would I spend it doing other people's work?

I need something else to help me pass the time. I need a new hobby.

My hobby in my past life was reading novels, reading manga, watching anime and movies. Yeah, I was a real dork nerd back then.

But books are expensive in this world. The cheapest one could go up to 100,000 Lumens.

I could save up the money and buy one, but that seems to be such a big waste of money. I'm not a big fan of splurging, even if my salary was already big.

Hmmm. I'm out of ideas. Maybe I could try other people's hobbies and see if I like them?

"We'll see the sun come up again 🎶~! We will claim higher than we've been 🎶~! We got a fire that burns within🎶~! We are the Dragonhearted, We are the Dragonhearted🎶~!"

What were my parents' hobbies? My dad hunted a lot. Sometimes he even brought back a live boar just to wrestle with it. His circle of fellow hunter friends made contests to see who's the best boar wrestler. It was fun watching them do it, and it was fun making fun of my dad when he goes home with a black eye.

Sigh... good times.

I obviously can't do that here. I don't think Weiss would allow me to bring back a live boar just to wrestle with it. So that's a pass.

My mom helped with farmwork to pass time. Yeah no. That's just more work. PASS!

What about Elder Zeph? He was the oldest person in the village. He liked to tell stories to children with his sculpted figurines.

Sculpted...

Hmm...

Maybe I could try sculpting? That should be fun!

I got out of my bed and exited my room.

Of course, I had to go through so many different places just to navigate through this huge fucking manor. My destination? The kitchen.

I reached the kitchen and entered. Immediately, I was greeted by the workers there.

"Hey, Luka! How's your day?"

"Eh, it's fine. I'm a bit bored though." I replied.

I looked around for the place where they store the firewood used for cooking.

I asked a worker near me—a cook to be exact—if I could get one piece of firewood.

They agreed to let me take one while asking what I was going to do with it.

"Stuff," I said as I left the kitchen.

I quickly made my way back to my room. Another arduous journey through the lands of LONG FUCKING HALLWAYS IN A BIG FUCKING MANOR.

I got back into my room and took out the dagger I bought before in the dresser and immediately started planning on how I should carve this piece of wood.

"..."

Yeah... I have no idea.

I should probably just start somewhere and make my way up to it. I'm a total newbie in sculpting. I have no idea how to plan this so, let's just eyeball this.

***

2 hours and 40 minutes later, I guess I'm finished?

The final product's rough. Really rough. There's no detail to it, it's just a piece of wood that somewhat resembles a humanoid figure. I made so many mistakes as well that I accidentally cut my fingers several times. I bandaged the wounds with some cloth and continued working on carving the wood. I thought that my experience with pottery in my past life would at least help, but nope! Pottery and carving wood are way too different.

The end product's bad. But... I actually found it kinda fun.

I mean sure, I'm an absolute novice at this, and my first sculpture is really ugly. But it's not as if that's the end of the world. I found this activity fun, and I'm sure I will improve the more I do this.

I did make a mess though. There are a lot of wood shavings scattered across the floor.

"I need to clean this up."

I didn't have a broom or a dustpan, so I had to clean up the wood shavings with my hands.

I opened the window to my room, which let in the cold winter air of the outside.

Then, I simply threw out the handfuls of woodshaving that I could pick up out the window.

After picking out all the wood shavings and throwing them out, I closed the window and sat down, admiring my crappy piece of artwork.

By the way, the window in my room doesn't have glass. It's just wood planks connected to the wall with hinges, so it's basically a little door that leads to the outside.

The Duke may be generous with his servants and workers, but he's not that generous to install glass windows in every servant's room.

Glass is expensive in this world. Only nobles and rich merchants have the luxury to buy them.

I heard a knock on my door.

I got out of my bed and opened it.

It was Weiss.

"You started to sculpt huh?"

"Yeah. What? Am I not allowed to start a hobby?"

"Hmph," Weiss smiled.

Look at this smug geezer. One day I WILL succeed in punching him in the face.

"Go to the forest tomorrow," Weiss said.

"What for?" I asked.

Weiss didn't answer and left.
