Sharing Pasts

I ran away. My feet ran as fast as they could to take me away.

I knew that running away was pointless. No matter hard fast and how far I ran, I can never escape my past.

Soon, after running around aimlessly, I found myself in the forests outside the manor.

Tired, I sat down to catch my breath.

I thought back to what Weiss said. Something about me controlling the wind.

'Blessed One'. I hated that phrase. If I was really so blessed then why...why did I have to lose everyone. I just couldn't accept it.

The adults in the village said that the land the village was built upon was blessed by Faunus, the God of Nature. If it was really blessed, then why was it so suddenly destroyed by those unholy things. Just why...

I looked at my hands and clenched them into fists. Then I looked at the sky with melancholy.

"The god who blessed me...Aeolus. If you really blessed me then why did you let it happen. Faunus, if you really blessed the land then why didn't you protect the village."

Believing in the existence of gods was never something I even considered in my past life. I saw all the different religions as frauds that only exist to fool the masses and profit from donations.

But this world is different. It has a strange thing called Aura, it has magic, and monsters of countless varieties exist. It is so much different from Earth despite being similar in many different ways. The existence of gods shouldn't be a question either. My guess is that even my reincarnation has something to do with the gods.

Who reincarnated me? And why?

Why reincarnate me into a loving family just to take them away from me 10 years later. Haven't I already suffered enough?

In fact...I already had suspicions about my ability to control the wind. My neverending nightmares and my room becoming cluttered when waking up. The fact that I was born in the month of Aeolus.

There were so many different points of proof that my blessing is real. I already realized but I just didn't want to admit it. I'm not a dense idiot...

Now that the old bastard forced me to face the truth, I have no choice but to accept it. I am a Blessed One.

I heard footsteps in the distance. The crunching of dry leaves on the forest floor was distinct.

"LUKA!!!"

That loud voice was a very familiar one. I've heard it so many times to the point that I'm sick of it.

I sighed and shouted back.

"I'm here!"

"Oh! Stay there!!!"

The footsteps increased in frequency as the walk accelerated into a sprint.

"LUKAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!"

Rosaline screamed at the top of her lungs. She abruptly stopped her sprint in front of me. Then, a large gust of wind blew, violently shaking the surrounding trees. Her running speed was so fast that she created a strong current of wind.

"Please stop doing that! You're gonna make me deaf by the time I reach 13." I complained while covering my ears. The loud boom of her voice from earlier almost made me deaf.

"Hehe, sorry."

I pinched the bridge of my nose in frustration, then sighed.

"Why're you here?"

Rosaline sat down next to me.

"You were sad. I...I wanted to be there for you because you're my friend."

Friend? She considers me as her friend?

She's a good kid. She's a pain in the ass but...she's kind. To think of someone like me as her friend, I was touched.

"...thanks."

"No problem!!" Rosaline smiled.

We stayed there and just admired the scenery of the forest. We didn't talk, nor did we move. The silence was our companion, it helped me forget my grief for the moment.

Soon, Rosaline started talking.

"I lost my mom when I was very little..."

I looked in confusion. Why did she suddenly start talking about her past?

"I woke up one morning and I find out that she's not in the house."

A child losing their parents at a very young age...sounds familiar.

"Papa said that bad people took her away..."

Assailants with malicious intent are the culprit. Her past and mine are quite similar, aren't they?

I saw tears form in the corner of her eyes.

"I miss my Mama." Rosaline hid her face behind her legs, trying to hide the fact that she was crying.

I patted her head. My hand rubbed her hair as my fingers combed through the silver strands.

This spoiled little girl shared her past. I didn't know why, but something inside me told me to share my past as well.

"I lost my parents 3 years ago. Not just my parents, but my entire village."

Rosaline's head perked up. She looked at me with curiosity in her eyes.

I wiped away the tears from her face and continued my sharing.

"Some very, very bad people took them away from me as well. I was the only survivor."

Rosaline's expression became sullen as she heard my past. She suddenly hugged me out of nowhere. But I didn't resist and let her hug me.

"Both of us lost people we love. And both of us are these...Blessed Ones."

"Yeah, we are."

If my blessing was control over wind, what's Rosaline's blessing? I had a guess, but asking the girl herself would be faster.

"Weiss said I was blessed by Aeolus. Do you know which god blessed you?"

Rosaline thought for a moment before answering my question.

"They said I was blessed by the God of Strength."

"Kratos?"

"Yeah..."

I knew it. That would explain her abnormal physical capabilities and hyperactivity.

Nothing's going to change if I keep sulking around. The past is the past, nothing can be changed. The only thing I can do is work hard for the future.

Rosaline pulled herself back and stopped hugging me.

Both of us stood up and returned to the manor. I felt like the two of us grew closer today, as friends.
