Chapter 4

The dream was horrific, everyone around me was either dying or was already dead. They were hungry, disgusting, inhumane. They were all running towards me, wanting to rip my flesh from my bones.

I woke up to hear crying, the sound of it made my bones rattle with fear.

Will they hear it? Are they coming? As these thoughts flooded to my mind, I did not realize I was walking towards the sound. The sound was coming from a girl. The girl was Jenny.

"I-I can't do this. People are dying and I cannot do anything about it. Why did it have to be this way? What did I do wrong?", she asked in a desperate voice.

"I don' think it's your fault", I said.

She flinched at the sound of my voice and turned around to look at me.

"How long were you standing there?", she asked in embarrassment.

"Not long actually. I just heard you crying and came over to see what was up."

"Did I wake you up?", she asked me.

"No", I lied.

We sat there in complete darkness and solitude. The sound of silence held a thin protective blanket against the noises in our head of the day.

"I better get to bed; we need to figure a way out of here."

"Yeah, we are completely surrounded", I said in deep thought. I thought of ways we could fight them off, but all of them ended in the same way. Then, I thought of a way to distract them. All of them sounded risky in the school, but the stadium was perfect!

"I know what we need to do!", I yelled in excitement.

"What do you mean?", Jenny said in confusion.

"The stadium! We need the stadium!" She looked at me wide eyed, then started to consider what we needed to do. She looked shocked, amazed even.

"Yeah, yes, if we use the stadium's speakers, we could lure them to it so we could have enough time to escape! It's genius!", she hollered with excitement. She ran over to me and gave me a hug; she tightened her hug. We stood there for a few seconds.

Until she asked the unanswerable question," Who is going to do it?"

"I don't know. We'll figure it out though."

"We?"

"Yeah, we're all in this together. Right?"

"Yeah."

Yes, we are all in this together. Every single one of us are, and we need to get out of it.

"Jefferson is gone!"
