Chapter 7

When we got back to the auditorium we decided to keep our findings a secret, to not cause panic amongst the survivors. I have avoided food for the whole day. One look at any piece of anything edible, and I curled my nose to it. Slade and I devised a plan to get to the stadium. Many people will probably die, but more will survive, we decided we would go once we found gas masks for everyone, if we could.

The plan is to, first, find gas masks so we can get up on the roof. From the roof we will throw containers filled with loose metal to distract the infected. Once they are infected we will make our move, and on our way search the military trucks for weapons and explosives. Maybe take a truck on our way back if we're able. I told Jenny the plan and she agreed to it.

"We would discuss what we should tell them and ask for volunteers to help us if they want to leave", said Slade. "If we don't then they won't know what to do".

Jenny and I thought about this for a second I was up for this idea, but Jenny didn't want to cause a problem between the people that want to help and between the people that want to fight against us. She made a valid point this could either make us stronger or it could make us weaker. We could either risk the opportunity to escape or we could die here of starvation or something else worse.

Slade was irritated by this comment, but he respected the fact it was thought of. He agreed angrily, but he knew it was the right decision in the long run. I came up with an ultimatum, the people will take a poll to see who would come along and help us with our escape and who would stay.

When they heard the idea, they were skeptical about it, but they eventually gave it a shot. We entered the auditorium we asked everyone to take a piece of paper and write down if you would rather to help the escape or stay. Everyone was about to ask questions when Slade piped up and said, "I'm not dealing with everyone asking question left and right. So shut up and write your answers".

Everyone wrote their answers in quiet. No questions were asked when Slade had his moment of irritation showing through. The man is can be calm and relaxed, but when he's pissed no one should do anything to make it worse. Once everyone was done writing we instructed them to put their vote in a bucket that we found in a workshop. Once we sorted the votes between who wants to go and who wants to stay, we realized only six other people wanted to leave. I called them up and asked for their names.

A tall built man approached and said his name was Jacob. The next one was brown haired girl named Marlena; I knew her but not too well. Next was a boy named John. Next was a girl named Sasha, she seemed eager to leave. The rest of them did not come up. We called for them to see if they wanted to come along. They did not budge, whoever they were.

"Alright you four come with us. We have a lot to discuss", said Slade.
