Surveillance: Day one

"Man, we gotta have some serious eagle eye view among ourselves." Zinbad chimed in his opinion, thinking of a well-known assassin game.

"Or, if we grab hold of every single street cam in the city, we could do the same," Tanya said, as she thought of a much more sensible approach.

"Those cameras are operated by the police, right? Wait, do you want to hack into their server?" Zinbad asked as he looked shocked, impressed, and excited at the same time.

"No need. I have my own methods." Tanya tried her maximum to look cool as she uttered those words.

"Fine. I'll leave this up to you two. If you wanna find me, I'll be in the study." Addison nodded at them both and exited the room before promptly coming back. "Oh, there's a desktop on the first floor and we got Wi-Fi too—for the surveillance."

"Got it." Tanya gave a thumbs up to a retreating Addison.

"So, what's the plan?" Zinbad had no idea about the method she talked about and was curious about the same.

"I never told you about my other job, did I?" Tanya asked as she gave out a pretty hefty laugh.

"Interesting new piece of information. What is it? Tell me. Are you a renowned hacker or something?" Zinbad looked like an excited kid jumping up and down as he waited for her reply.

"Like hell I am! I'm actually a police officer." Tanya said, seemingly proud of herself.

Suddenly, all the excitement that Zinbad built up went down as if there was none to start off with. "Ugh, police huh? Man, I suddenly feel my energy draining so much that I can't even be surprised at it no more."

"That's because I'm a police officer, isn't it? Like I don't know what happened between you and the police, but you sure seem to hate them." Tanya said what she noticed within these days.

"Meh, it's not that. It's just that the police in this city are a bunch of assholes. Guess I'm allergic to assholes." Zinbad said, still gloomy as before, rubbing his nose quite a bit of time.

"Tell me about that!" Tanya let out a laughter.

"But man, police officer huh? Now I get how you're gonna get access." Zinbad said.

"Damn right. It's the easy way." Tanya nodded her head as she replied.

"Wait, you're off service, right? So, you can't get access, I believe." Zinbad asked since he never saw her doing her job.

"Who said that I'm off service? I just took a very long holiday which still continues. Someday, I might get back or so they think." Tanya replied bluntly.

"I see. But, don't you need your police badge ID or something to log in. Don't tell me, you carried it around all the time as a memento or something." The excited kid who wanted to see a police badge woke back.

And soon enough, Tanya poured the water over his excitement. "Nah, I saved it in my memo!"

"Wow, so boring." The gloomy guy replied.

"It doesn't matter if it is. At least, I don't have to waste any time going back to my home and coming around." Tanya argued.

"Still, it's pretty boring." The argument was null and void in front of an ignorant man.

Tanya decided to drop the conversation. "Enough about that. Let's get on with the job, shall we?" They headed to the PC room.

[Day One]

It had been many hours since Addison requested them both for the surveillance. Pretty normal events unfolded. Since Tanya was the experienced one, she took the helm. While Zinbad sat beside her, ignoring her efforts. He concentrated on nurturing Kuro.

"This is a pretty tiring job!" She contemplated her hard work. Sitting in the same damn place was very hard for an outgoing person like Tanya.

"What's up with it? You just have to look around a couple of screens, right?" Zinbad said as if blatantly mocking Tanya's hours of hard work.

"If that's the case, why don't you do it then?" Tanya angrily asked Zinbad. He twitched. For a moment, her aura felt similar to that of Addison.

"Um, no. I have Kuro to take care of." Zinbad said as he gave out a burst of very nervous laughter.

"Well then, I'll take care of Kuro and you do this," Tanya said as she gave out a sinister smile.

"You know what? You're suitable for this kinda shit—you being a police officer and all." Zinbad's voice turned frail as he humbly replied.

"I'll teach you." Tanya's aura was even more intense.

"Please, I'm sorry," Zinbad said as he broke.

Seeing Zinbad in such a state gave immense pleasure to Tanya's sadistic mind. She was satisfied. "Hmm, fine. But can you just ask Addison on how long I have to keep doing this surveillance?" She asked.

"Sure." Zinbad exhaled as he replied and hurriedly left towards the study. "Hey, Addison. I'm here to relay Tanya's message. She asked me about the time limit of her current assignment."

"Ah, the surveillance. Yea, it will take a good week or so. Ask her to hang in there." Addison replied.

"Will do." Zinbad gave out a pleasant smile.

"Zinbad?" Addison called for him as he was about to leave.

"Yea?" Zinbad replied.

"Why are you doing this?" Addison asked the question that was bugging him for quite a while.

"Doing what?" Zinbad asked back, looking all innocent.

"You know, helping her. Is it just the vampire thing or…" Addison was about to say something before he was interrupted.

"I guess it's the vampire thing. Exciting times, isn't it? I don't know. Feels like going on this path with Tanya will make my life a hundredfold times interesting." Zinbad said with another one of the smiles on his face. It, however, looked a bit fake.

"Wow, exciting times at the expense of a dead girl and another nearly dead one, huh? Good times, indeed." There was a hint of sarcasm in Addison's voice.

Zinbad stayed quiet for an extended period of time before he gave out a reply. "Well, I guess there's this guilt of not helping her on time too."

"Hmm. Glad to know the real reason. Scram now. I got something interesting to read." Addison said as he shoved Zinbad out and closed the study. This time, Addison was the one smiling for some odd reason.
