Running his fingers through his hair, Athan sighed, "Come on, stop glaring at me. It's not like I am trying to take over your position or something."
"I would be more than happy if you would be doing that." Crossing his arms in the front, Adrian glared at his brother. "I sent you here to learn about humans, not to settle down."
"And who said I have settled down? I am still learning." To make his statement more convincing, Athan quickly explained, "Do you know how complicated humans are? It's not easy to understand them."
"It's been thirteen years Athan, you are making me angry now."
Slumping on the couch, he sighed, "If mom and dad were here, they would never pressurize me this way. They would definitely let me do what I want." Looking at his elder brother, Athan muttered, "I miss them."
Rolling his eyes, Adrian sat beside him. "Will you ever stop doing this?"
"Not as long as it works," he grinned.
Adrian Campbell was the Alpha of the werewolf pack and Athan's big brother. After losing his father, Adrian had to take over the alpha position after him as he was the chosen one.
While he was busy coping with all the responsibilities of the pack, he was again burdened by a huge loss. Their mother lost her life while giving birth to Athan, leaving Adrian alone with the responsibility of the pack and his younger brother.
In order to understand and adapt to every situation, all members of the pack were sent out to live amongst other living beings, especially humans. This was a tradition that had been practiced for centuries.
When Athan turned fifteen, he was also sent out of the pack to live among the humans. But to everyone's surprise, he never came back. He continued living his life away from the pack claiming that he was a slow learner and was still learning to adapt.
"You have to return," Adrian stated leaving no room for negotiation.
"Why? It's not like the pack will get destroyed or cursed without me? I don't even have anything to do there." The urge of returning home never really hit Athan. He was happy where he was and that was all he wanted.
"Father would be so disappointed if he heard this."
"Well, maybe but I don't know him nor do I know mom. Since I was born, opened my eyes, started crawling, walking, speaking, since my first hunt, race—I just know you. So I don't care if any of them or anyone else gets disappointed, I just care about what you think," Athan stated.
Looking at his brother, Adrian scoffed, "You seem to have learned the act of emotionally blackmailing and manipulating people and yet you say you haven't adapted well."
"See, isn't this proof that I am still learning? It's not like I am wasting my time and fooling around here." When Adrian raised his brows, he sighed, "Okay fine, maybe I am having a little fun but that's it."
"Are you coming with me or not?"
"Oh come on Adrian, let me stay. I am happy here and think about Ivan, what would happen to him if I just disappear overnight? He is a mess without me. And not to forget there are so many people I am in touch with and—"
