Echo of a forthcoming war

General Hunter did not give orders to pursue the targets which had escaped; after all, he knew very well where they were headed, and soon enough, he would lay waste to the settlement which harbored such grievous criminals.

In his mind, Alex and his party were soldiers under his command who had committed the unforgivable sin of desertion, and sooner or later, they would pay the price for their treachery. As long as he lived, he would devote a part of his resources to capturing, torturing, and executing those who had defied his rule.

Rather he attended to the matter of making preparations for the upcoming war. This insolence would not go unanswered; the very idea that a group of traitors had lured his second in command into a trap and decapitated him infuriated the tyrant.
