By the time Alex's comrades finally awoke it was already the middle of the morning, and they stared at Alex who was drinking a cup of coffee with confusion in their eyes. Last night Derek was supposed to take over Alex's shift at midnight, but from what they could gather he slept through his shift, and Alex continued to keep watch.

Cassie of course being furious at Alex and Derek for their failure to change shifts, blurted out her frustration at the two young men.

"What the hell guys, why didn't you switch shifts?"

Derek had a confused expression on his face, and Alex was chuckling

"I tried to wake the little bugger, but he was too deep in sleep. So I decided to keep watch for the full night"
