The next morning I woke up with ease at the beep of the alarm. I heard some sounds in the kitchen and knew that mum was already up and she was on morning shift because if she is not, she would still be sleeping by now.
"good morning mum" I greeted as i passed her to wash the plates on the sink.
"Good morning dear, how was your night?"
"fine mum" I wanted to ask ' what about yours?' but I waved it and washed the plates in there so I could go back to my room and brush my mouth before coming to the kitchen for breakfast
"you know I wanted to ask you about your friends"
"you mean Yvonne?" I smiled
"yes she, how is it going?"
"mum, this is early morning and I need to prepare for school"
"okay, I will let you be on one condition"
"which is?" I stood my hands still on the sink rinsing the soap that has made my hands slippery
"that you will tell me when you come back from school"
"no problems" I raised my hands up in surrender
"so you go up, get ready and come downstairs and have breakfast so see if I can drop you before going to work"
I looked at her "have you showered?"
"yes"
"okay, let me go get ready then"
"hurry up, I will go and get ready too"
it took me less than 20 minutes to get ready and I merely used the brown powder that I got from a cosmetics store and I thought about putting on lip gloss but I dropped it and took the vitamin c tablets and put in my school bag.
I checked myself in the mirror and loved the pink sweater and jeans that I had chosen to wear with the white sneakers
"what is still holding you there?" mum yelled from the sitting room
"coming" I screamed so she can hear me and threw the books that were lying on the bed with my journal and straighten the bed sheet that mum insist that I wash every weekend
"sorry mum" I apologized and smiled as I admired her in her hot attire of white shirt and black skirt.
" are you going to work?" I asked because she looked more like a lawyer than a nurse
"why do you ask?" she looked at me and stiffled a giggle
"because you are not on your uniform"
"yeah, you are right, I'm going for a seminar"
"oh, seminar"I eyed her suspiciously
"stop it, let's eat" she snapped
"okay"
"pray"
"father bless this food in Jesus name amen"
"amen"
we ate the pancakes and the tea as if we were on time check and she gave me a lunchbox
"why mum, I can eat in the canteen"
"but theirs isn't better, come-on, take this"
"okay, if you insist"
"I insist" she laughed and opened the car door
"why are you been so loving"
"come on, sal, let's go im running late"
"eh hmm" she playfully hit me with her hand bag and I ran to the other side of the car and got in.
"today is so blessed" she said and turned on the ignition
"uh huh" I said
"what's wrong with you"
" nothing, just enjoying the ride"
she looked at me and our eyes met and we shared a giggle and there I knew our bond is sure.
