Chapter Eleven

The scorching heat didnt justify all the excessive the tension in the atmosphere, judging by the demeanor of her collegues, Ainzley must've dropped a bomb in the briefing she had missed earlier.

As Jess walked pass the cubicles, listening to the loud chatter of officers as they spoke amongst themselves. A few glared at her with what she assumed to be indifference for lack of a better word, not that she ever gave a crap about to what anyone in the department thought of her personally.

Her temper flared, "What the hell is it this time!?" she asked, pissed to be out of the loop.

Montag responded, coming around to meet her with the latest report in hand.

"Here you go." He said nonchalantly, the warmth in his eyes didn't go unnoticed.

Unlike Boone, he was the silent, brooding type, one of the few who remained unbiased & acknowledged her hard hard.

"Thanks." Jess cracked the file open immediately. "I owe you one."

Curiousity peaked, she abruptly flipped the pages, allowing her eyes to glossing over the new evidence. The murder weapon had been found, which explained the group reporters circling around the precint like a pack of hyenas. Someone must've leaked information to the media, but who? No doubt the FBI would be sending one of their finest to analyze now that the cat was out of the bag.

Afterall, the fingerprints were a one hundred percent match to none other Domino Bellagio. One half of the infamous twins brothers, who spread fear through those in the drug trade. Not exactly the kind of man you wanted to be indebted to.

No one who ever crossed him lived to speak about it, unfortunately neither did their families.

Jess processed all the information gathered & thought of Kyoka, someone was after her. The unsettling sensation she felt this morning was still present in her mind. With that she stormed into Ainzley office.

He was seated behind a desk that seemed way to small for a man of his stature.

"Why hasn't Domino been arrested?" She asked, casting a venomous glare in his direction.

"Now that the media knows about this we need to tread carefully." He murmured.

Jess slammed her hands against his desk, coming face to face with Ainzley. "Bullshit! Has he gotten to you?"

"Dont be ridiculous!!" He hissed."

"Then why the fuck are you hesistating?"

Ainzley stood up from his chair, towering over Jess by more than a few inches. She had seen this technique to many times not to notice what he was trying to do.

"Intimidation? Really?" She stared at him for a heartbeat & sighed. "I expected more from you. I really did."

"Don't forget who the fuck your talking to!" He snapped.

"Trust me, I wont be making that mistake again."

Jess walked out on the man she had always admired & never looked back. She couldn't trust him anymore, he was compromised, but without proof to back her theory it was just that. Nothing good would come out of it.

She didn't stop until she was out of precinct & locked in her car. There was no time to sort out her emotions, the detective in her demanded she keep a level head going forward. Any mistakes at this point could prove detrimental.

Jess took a deep calming breath, before dialing Ky's number. When there was no answer she tried Boone.

"Did you send the guy over?"

"I did, he's dead."

The phone fell from her hand & landed under the seat. She heard the faints sound pf Boone's voice, but nothing else registered. She had been too shocked to move, too shocked to think, too shocked to breathe. She was about to lose someone special again.
