The party meeting went all well. people were satisfied with what our leader said.
I saw a great figure being escorted by the police known as the Polisa in our local language entering into a great 4 wheeled creature.
Could it be Ndaziona? Can't he see my poverty?...I looked at one of the car window only to see a hand waving the party followers. The dancer's dancing while surrounding the car singing songs of praise. The man in a smart suit smiling at them. My cousin has reached to his maximum of wealth. I looked at how many these 4 leged animals were there. uncountable. I tried to wave and wave but my waving was unnoticed. It pained my heart seeing a man whom I knew from birth failing to recognise my presence. A strange noise was in the air from their youth department. Ndaziona!!!!! Ndaziona!!!!! I did not believe it was him. All the invited guests had their respective speeches but he did not choose to speak. I wondered as to why? I started following the news of this powerful regime from the party leaders of our village. "Mom I want to join the youth department" What!!!!!.....she shouted. ah.....ah.... poverty is killing me mom.
she was quite preparing ugali for that evening. Be a farmer. she said.
farmers are poor in the site of people but very rich at the farm. I looked at her with disapproval. why are you still struggling with poverty yet you are a coco farmer. Dad has been working to also improve our Matoke farm but up to now poverty is our daily food. son the god's of our beloved village will bless us one day. I left my parents shamba to my shamba some metres away. it was good for my cousin to enjoy such moment's. He was more respected. I entered my room while regretting....had I known I would have joined Ndaziona. Being tired of the hangover. The weather was harsh. I tried to set myself on some coal to warm myself before bed but it was so harsh than before. I walked straight to my room. my bedroom was a comfortable place to stay. I can walk here and there but my room was a good place to stay.
I started thinking of the bar. I must go back tomorrow in the evening to spice up my day. The only money remained in my pocket was 50 Tambala coin. it's enough to keep me happy the next day. I swallowed up some saliva. what is it that Ndaziona is thinking of me? No one could respond to my memories. The day's we were chatting with him in the village group was amazing. Tomorrow I must go to the bar. "I vowed" I started snoring. The dark cloud was all over the sky...I met some undescribed creatures. My body was in fear and terror I wanted to wake up but I failed. Evil powers were all over my experience. I tried to run but I failed. The trees were shaking in an unusual strange noise. I tried to call but no one was able to hear me. The land was dark and gray. smoke and fire were coming from where my eyes fixed. I was alone yes I was. Different animals small and big were passing by running away from the fire. I tried to run but my legs were very heavy to carry. it was a very awful experience. At a distance I saw Ndaziona crying for a help. I tried to save his life from the burning fire but it was too late. His both legs tied up with a strong chain. His eyes full of blood. I tried to shout out loud for him to hear my voice. He shook his head and disappeared in a dark cloud. later I saw some flying objects coming towards my position but at a very far distance. what can these be? no one was in position to answer any of my questions. an hour later I discovered that it was a swarm of bees flying towards the cloudy place where Ndaziona disappeared. I started crying uncontrollably. my voice became very course. I tried to gather courage but I could not. The thought of going back to my shamba came in but all ways were shuttered before me. I was under panic.
The body of Ndaziona appeared again from the dark cloud. it was more than horrible. striped naked while some of his body parts removed. The only remaining with was the head and the right ear. it has been offered as a sacrifice!!!!! something shouted out. The earth shook with a very violent noise. The wind started blowing very hard. trees were being uprooted and whirl wind was all over the place.
I wake up only to realise that it was a dream. is this real? I was quite thinking of how to handle it...I did not hesitate to plan for a meeting with Ndaziona. I asked for help from my mom but she shrugged me and earnestly requested me to stop what I was about to be engaged in. I tried to support my ideas to let Ndaziona know about the dream. The next day came but I did not figure out as to whom I should share with the dream. No one will be in the position of believing my dreams. some people could say that it was the porridge I took yesterday that's what made me to have such silly dreams. I did not dare to share with the Youth development team because of their hostility over my role as a team leader at the village Monger's group. I stopped sharing the dream after the strong warning from my papa. There's a party meeting tomorrow at noon. mom said, please son don't think of the dream. I was quite.
It was a great day full of new faces at the meeting. well dressed people from the Boma. smelling different smells. you could feel that they're not of your level. Songs of praise and joy were all over again. I hope to see Ndaziona today. I whispered to one of the man who stood close to me. He just looked at me and ignored. what are you going to tell him? He wanted to know.....ah....ah... he's my cousin. I was afraid to tell him about my experience last night. I tried hard to find something to introduce so that I should forget everything. The speakers started implementing their respective speeches one by one. I was ready to see my cousin. we were told to stand up as the main guest is about to speak. The women wing introduced their usual famous song which made everyone to rise up and join the dance. it was a wonderful gaze. soon or later I saw my cousin addressing the crowd. He started by saying; "no one can fight me!!!" this is my village!! and no one can tell me or predict what should be done. Women and boy's raised their voices in agreement with him. I was quite wondering as to whether the god's of our land have managed to give him the dream I had. it started boring again when he started shouting at our local leaders for not showering him with some gift's such as chickens, egg's and many others. people could clapp hands as a symbol of loyalty but it wasn't like that. people started leaving one by one because there was few security men at the moment. I left the time he said, "I have got relatives here who are still sleeping in a shamba full of rats and cockroaches" they will die in such a state. I looked at him with an eye of dissatisfaction then left.
Ma'am!!!!! have you seen what your man has been saying at the parties meeting? she looked at me and said, that's what Life has chosen to give us and we can not protest. Our own son of the soil cursing his own village. He forgot that he also once was in such a pathetic state. Your friend has done a very bad thing today....that was my Papa. How can he be against the leaders of our land? I stayed quiet.
Two weeks past, people were still talking about what happened on the parties meeting. Everyone wished him a very bad luck. The wind started blowing hard again. The skies indicated that their is a heavy rain coming. it is going to rain cat's and dogs. I started off to my shamba. I know it better. if I wait for it to rain I will find everything soaked in water. The darkness could be felt. Their was a sudden change in the atmosphere. The wind stopped, all the clouds were no where to be seen. The heat from the sun was like of September and October.
Two strange men passed by my shamba going straight to the way that leads to the chief resident. I tried to run after them but they were too fast to be caught.
We are from the Boma. I heard it behind the chiefs shamba. I left the place as quickly as possible. Ma'am!! Ma'am!! What is it Richard! Ndaziona must be dead.
she looked at me with anger. don't rush to decide while the god's have not yet decided. someone caught her unfinished voice and say it's true. Ndaziona is no more. His body has been found floating in kasiya River early hours of today. The Messanger explained that some of his body parts were cut off and no one knows where they have been taken. Mom looked at me in her tears. I shouted out loud.... it's a bloody day.....yes this is blood ma'am agreed.
The news about his death was all over the village. people could come to our home for a comfort but I blocked them all. Everyone started living in fear because no one could figure out as to the reason why he has been brutally beaten and killed like a chicken. My dreams has come to pass.
Ma'am I want to go to town and stay with Uncle Mathews.....I said. she looked at me and said let's sit down this evening.
The evening came so fast but she didn't want to hear it all. we are in a moment of sorrow let's wait for the god's. My dad was a busy person with his matoke farm hence failing to support my ideas. poor me I didn't go further with education. I started blaming myself.
A week later I ended the village Monger's group. Being afraid to die was all over my veins. Everyone could smell it. people could not talk of the party again in fear of losing everything including their lives. A mind of vengeance started implementing itself within me. "One day I will revenge".,.,this is the only way to end this blood shading in our village. No one was in my support hence the plan died within me. I was violent to drink and steal the more. people could discover that their items and animals are missing but failing to discover who is capable of doing Such mulpractice.
