King Corvus sighed heavily and shot Mana a pleading glance.

But Mana held up a hand to stop him. "No need," she told him. "I can handle this, don't worry."

After all, Raven had used up way more magical energy than her when restoring the barriers, Mana thought, and she didn't want him to overdraw his magic.

Mana smiled at King Corvus. "Don't worry, Grandfather," she said. "None of your grandchildren will come to harm, nor will your Obsidian Kingdom."

Minister Naja burst out laughing. "Little girl," he said in a mocking voice. "Open your eyes and look around yourself. This isn't your Emerald Kingdom. This is the Obsidian Kingdom, where your blood is useless. Keep your delusions of grandeur under control!"
