"Onna, promise me you won't let them find her. Promise me!" Soul Searcher shouted as the strong whips pulled his ankles towards his captor.
"No, I am not letting them take you. Just hold on!" Onna painfully crawled, trying to reach for her discarded katana. She yelp in pain as one of the men step down hard on her hand.
"No Onna, you need to run. You need to warn her. Get away from her!" Dai shouted when he hear the crunch of the man's boot crushing Onna's fingers. He tried to pull on his restraints, but they just burn through his suit and into his flesh.
Onna use her other hand and grab onto the man's ankle and champ down on it harshly. He cried out in pain and esae his foot of her hand as he rub the stinging area. Onna took that as her chance to get away and quickly but painful got up and use her uninjured hand to grab her katana. She tried to get to where Soul Searcher is but two other man block her path.
"Get out of my way uglies." She barks angrily. Lefting her katana to strike, but before she could even strike. One of the huge hulk use the back of his beefy hand and strike her in her face, knocking her to the ground. Laughing, he walk over to where she fell. Dai found the courage to fight through the burning sensation around his ankles, and use the buttom of his right boot and kick his captor hard in the face.
"Leave her be!" He uses his telekinesis to push the guys away from Onna, one land on each side with a loud thud. "I told you to run." He pick Onna up of the ground, he turn her face to the side and examine the bruise forming on her right cheek.
"I-i am not letting them get you." Onna weakly said. "Now come on." She pull on Soul Searcher's hand and started to run. But Soul Searcher got pulled back, one of the burning whip wrap around his hand. "No." Onna pulled with all her might, tears burning her eyes.
"She is getting away." The same guy that stepped on Onna hand said to the person that is in charge.
"Let her go, she is not important. Just make sure the target doesn't escape." The person said.
"Go, find her. I will hold them off." Onna nodded and run, fighting the urge to stop and look if Soul Searcher is ok. She run to the end of the forest, and stumbled and fell on the asphalt. Tears escape her eyes as she hear the agonising scream of her partner. "Soul Searcher!" She called. "Dai, I am so sorry."
Five hours ago.
"Ok guys, I will see you tomorrow." I said as I took up my satchel then adjust the black headband over my head and feel if my ponytail is tight enough.
"See ya." Dai said, putting his mask over his eyes.
I hadn't got rid of that feeling I had been feeling since Robyn and Dai decided to go out patrolling without me. It is like something bad is going to happen tonight and I don't know what. "Hey Dai, it's still kind of early. Why don't you guys wait a bit before going out?" I wring my fingers nervously.
"You are such a worry wart, you just don't want us to go out." Robyn walk into the room already suited up, her katana tucked safely at her side. "We promise that we will be careful." She smile reassuringly.
I took a deep breath and smile at her, I need to have faith in them. And ignore this feeling inside my gut, maybe it's just nerves. Knowing that they are disobeying dad's orders. Oh shoot, I need to remind them that if they ever get caught by dad. They should tell him that I wasn't involved.
"Ok, now I am leaving for real this time. And remember if dad ever finds out about this, tell him that I wasn't involved."
"Will do." They said in unison. Creepy much.
"Ok, see you tomorrow and good luck." I bid them goodbye as i open the door and went out, then closing it behind me.
I took a cab to the suburban part of the city, and arrive at my house just as my sister is leaving.
"Thank you so much for looking after them, your money is on the kitchen counter." She told me, her husband honking the car horn impatiently. "Ah well, it's time for me to go. Alex is taking me to that new restaurant that opened, and he is afraid that if we stay any longer I am going to cancel our date night." She patted me on the shoulder, then skip off down the walkway. Her red dress shimmering in the moonlight and her matching heels clicking on the pebble walkway.
I roll my eyes, frowning as she got in the passenger seat, but smile when they honked at me. The frown coming back when they drove off. I make my way into the house calling mom as I hang my coat on the coat rack by the door.
"Hey sweetheart, the kids are in the kitchen. I'm in a bit of a hurry, please make them dinner. And thank you again for doing this." She kisses me on the cheek, leaving a red lipstick stain.
"How are you Mia?" Jeddidiah ask, giving me a hug. His aftershave and cologne mix well togather.
"I am good, how about you?" I ask him back.
"I am great, thankful that I have life." I nodded, and he pull away from me. "Ok, we don't want to be late. So we are off now, and please don't let the kids give you a hard time." I nodded again and Jeddi went out the door.
I have always like Jeddidiah, he is the best step- no, he is the best dad ever. He always ensure that I never have a dull time when I was little, he never missed a debating match or any other important event that I was apart of. He always take me to the father daughter dances at school, and he never told anyone that I wasn't his real daughter. He never favors my little brother over me and my sister, his love is always equal. And even though that I found my biological dad, I will never think of Jaddi as anything less. He will always be my father.
"Miayana!" My eleven year old brother run and jump in my arms. "I have missed you so much." He hugs me tight around my neck.
"I have missed you too Marco." I kiss him on his forehead and put him down. "Hey Poppy and Alexander, how are you guys. I hug both of them, making sure that no one feels left out.
"Hey aunty." They answer togather. Poppy is seven and Alexander is a little close behind, being five years old. "We are ok, and I have lost another tooth." Poppy answered, and pointed into her open mouth. Showing me two empty spaces, one of her canine is missing in the top row and a molar is missing at the buttom. "I have got two whole dollars from the tooth fairy." Wow, I can't believe that Charlotte let her kids believe in the tooth fairy. She and I never did believe in the tooth fairy or Santa Claus, well after we found out that every Christmas it was our grandpa dressing up as Santa. And we saw mom putting money under our pillows and taking our teeth.
"So what are you going to do with your two dollars?"
"Buy all the toys and books it can buy." She smile at me.
"Pop, you will need a lot more money to do that." Marco said to her from behind me. "Or you can let me take out a couple more teeth for you." I slap him on the arm and give him a stern look.
"Don't listen to him Poppy, so what would you guys like for dinner?"
"Mac and cheese!" Poppy yelled.
"No, hotdogs." Alexander suggested quietly.
"Just order us some pizzas and call it a night." Marco said, as he walk to the fridge and take a bottle of orange juice from it.
I tell you, that kid sometimes can be a real.....nevermind. "I have something ever better than what you guys want. How about I make my world famous tacos?"
A huge smile spread across all three of their faces.
"Can we help?" Poppy jump up and down excitedly.
"Sure, why not. But we have to wash our hands first."
Two hours and a bellyfull of tacos later, the kids and I sat in the sitting room watching shadowhunters on Netflix when I hear my phone ringing. I ease up Alexander head off of my shoulder and place it on his sister's who is dozing off, then I went to answer my phone which is on the dining room table.
"Hello?" I hear frantic breathing on the other end. "who is there?" I ask as the heavy breathing continue. The same feeling from earlier coming back. Fear consume me as I think about my love ones that are out and about.
"M-Miayana....." Robyn's voice came over the phone.
"Robyn, what's wrong?" I ask, the fear turning into panic.
"I-i-its Dai."
"What about Dai?" My fingernails digging into my palm from worry and nervousness.
"T-theyyy...." She started to cry. "They took him Mia, and I don't think I can stay awake any longerrr." Her voice slurred.
My heart leap from my chest, and tears burn my eyes. "Who took him Robyn, who took him?" She did answer me, I can hear her breathing getting weaker. "Robyn, where are you!" I yell into the speaker of the phone, the tears falling rapidly now.
"In the alley way between fourth and third Rainforest Drive." She mumble.
"Don't move i am coming." I frantically said to her.
"Please hurry." She whispers in the phone before the line went dead.
"Robyn! Robyn!" I call her name but receive no answer.
I quickly run to the living room where the kids are and look at Marco. "Marco I need you to watch Poppy and Alexander until mom gets back."
" Why, where are you going?" He ask, worry crease his brows.
"My other brother and best friend is in trouble, and I need to go help them." I tell him. Discreetly wiping the falling tears from my face.
"Is it serious?" He ask.
"Nope." I lied, not wanting to scare him. But he is so smart and observant you can't fool him.
"Then if it is not serious, why are you crying?"
I couldn't help the tears from not falling as I hear his words. All I can think about now, is what is happening to Dai and about Robyn hurt in an alley.
"Can you please do me this one favor, and I will owe you big time."
He stayed silent for a sec, searching my glistening eyes.
"I just have one question for you." He muttered.
"You can ask me anything." I said to him, bouncing on my feet impatiently.
"If it were me in trouble and not your new found brother, would you come save me like how you are going to save him?" He look away from me.
"Of course I would, I would walk through fire and the end of the world for you guys."
"I will watch them."
"Thank you so much." I walk up to him and kiss his head, then do the same thing to Poppy and then Alexander.
I run to the front door, already calling a cab. I make sure to set the alarm and lock the door behind me. As I step under the night sky, rain started falling. Drenching my once dried clothes, but I didn't care. I have bigger things to worry about then wet clothes. I need to know that my team is ok.
