Shall We Dine, Jester?

Oh?

That is going to be helpful but seriously? isn't that too inconvenient? the person has to reveal their identity to me first for me to gain access to their character sheet. Certainly can't use that on any hostiles.

I looked at Sigmund who was looking at me for any sort of reply. I suppose I was being rude for not replying to the Ist Prince of principality I was in. I quickly amended my mistake.

"Um, y-yes sure if you want to, Sigmund."

"Great, now that the introduction are out of the way, let's dine, I am sure you must be feeling a tinge in your stomach, you've been passed out for almost 3 days now after all. I know how that feels, trust me." Sigmund said as he pointed to one of the chairs. He himself sat on the opposite side of the table to me and the woman, whose name I still didn't knew, sat next to him.

We were waiting for the food to arrive while Sigmund and the woman chatted casually. From the way of speech I deduced that they were close. They also gave no heed to the fact that I, a complete stranger was sitting right next to them, and talked about topics that I could only consider sensitive.

For example, Sigmund started his conversation by asking about the steadily declining state of the treasury and how their economic growth was almost stagnant right now.

How a person could ever think of talking about such a topic in front of a stranger was beyond me. Were they not aware that there was possibility that if such information got out in the public, a public outcry wouldn't be much far from a possible outcome. I had read quite a lot of instances of the same happening to monarchies in some history books in my previous world.

As though why I read and where I read such things. I was clueless.

In the end I suppose the fact that I saved him might be to credit to his apparent lack of worry around me. The same though, couldn't be said for the the woman, whose name as I picked up from their conversation was, Clara. She has a carefree attitude from what I had seen of her and I think that could be one of the reasons as to why she is showing disinterest to my presence.

"Marques?" I heard Sigmund's voice which snapped me out of my internal deliberation.

"Yes?" I simply uttered.

"I heard from sister about your... situation. It's terribly saddening to hear about it. It must be exceptionally hard for you. But I must ask, do you have any clue whatsoever about who might be responsible for your situation?" Oh sister? that explains the familiarity I suppose.

Though, Wasn't this guy a little too caring? I mean sure I saved his life but, the whole situation could be just a ploy and I could just be a spy of principality of Erest-whatever - that's how this guy should be thinking but he is too carefree for a prince!

Stupid! Stop jinxing yourself. Everything is going oddly in your favour, don't wish for anything terrible.

Hah.

"If I am being honest I don't feel much sadness because I don't even know what I should be missing. So don't worry about me," I gave him a smile, "And also no. I don't remember seeing anything of interest where I woke up, so I don't know who might've caused my situation."

"Well that's truly unfortunate. Though I am certain it must be the principality of Ersthelm that was responsible for both of our problems. Those absolute bastards just won't leave our peaceful principality alone! It infuriates me to no end that I can't do anything about them!" Sigmund said rather angrily.

To be honest I was not getting the greatest impression on this principality of Ersthelm. Perhaps they are also the ones responsible for the condition that my body was in before I got reincarnated.

But that reminds me. I don't know shit about this world!

If I'm going to have to survive in this foreign world, I would need someplace to stay. Perhaps I should ask Sigmund? He is the prince after all, giving accomodation for just a person shouldn't be much problem to him.

Cautiously, I asked him.

"Um, Sigmund? Can I ask you for a favour?"

"Oh, do so! I owe you my life after all."

"Brilliant. I assume that you have already gathered that, I was not exactly telling the truth; when I said I was not from around here." He nodded in affirmation, "You see I don't actually remember anything about, well, anything. I didn't know I was in Velceri untill you told me and to be honest, I don't know what this principality of Ersthelm is, except that they are a principality of course." Clara looked at me empathetically and Sigmund just stared, "So, the favour I wanted to ask was about my accomodation. Frankly, as you might know, I don't have any place to go. So, can I stay here until I find my bearings? Anywhere would be fine! I just need a place to stay and some food. I'm ready to any job as long as it's within my limits, to pay off any expenses I mean."

I looked at Sigmund for a response. He was thinking with a stoic expression. He was not going to throw me out right? I mean I saved his life! He must have some sort of conscious to pay off the favour. Yeah, surely I'm just overthinking.

"Don't worry about it. You can stay with us for as long as you like! I couldn't be so terrible to make my lifesaver work for something that's so obviously out of his hand." Sigmund said smiling and Clara was agreeingly nodding.

Thank goodness. I should stop overthinking these things. I mean these people seem nice enough, surely they don't have any ulterior motive. Right?

"T-Thank you. I just have one more thing to ask if you don't mind."

"Sure, what is it?"

"Is there a library around here? I just want to be up to date with what's going on in this world. I'm sure you understand about my.... lack of awareness."

Another thing that I need to survive is information. And where would you find information? In books! And where do you find books? In a library!

.

.

.

That was kinda redundant I suppose.

"Why yes, we have the Velceri's largest library right in this vary mansion. You have full freedom if you want to borrow any books from there." Sigmund said with a smile that I had grown quite familiar within these past few hours. Both Clara and Sigmund shared this trait of smiling all the time. Which is nice if not a little excessive, but quite creepy when that is literally the only expression on their faces.

"Thank you." I simply replied.

Food arrived soon after and we ate in silence. The food was - like everything else - luxurious.
