Erstwhile Criminal (1)

I was panicking.

No, I was going absolutely delirious!

How in this godforsaken world did I forget about the quest— no mission! and why did this stupid system never remind me about it?!

Ding!

Huh?

------------------------------------------

Hint!

The bearer can access the mission menu by scrolling on his C.S.

------------------------------------------

Wait, no no no no. You are kidding right?

I can't believe this! all I had to do was scroll? It can't be that obvious. I'd have to be an utter dumbass to miss something like this.

'My C.S' I thought.

With a ding it appeared in front of me. Then, I scrolled.

Oh my God, I am an utter dumbass.

And I am going to die because of my said dumbassery.

I have to think.

.

.

.

.

It's been almost half an hour and I still can't think of anything. As I thought, my flashy high INT stat only increases my cognitive intelligence, not my critical thinking.

Well that sucks.

I am going to die. Once again, I guess.

The only other thing I can think of right now is going back to the site of crime. Don't have much hope but it's something, I guess.

Should probably find Harrison.

I walked down the hallways of the mansion to reach the dedicated 'Knight House' , which you guessed it, is the house where the Knights of the house live in. Harrison is the deputy head of the Knights and the personal knight of Sigmund. He accompanies the man literally everywhere, let it be to an important meeting with foreign delegates or, just to the washroom. One of the only times he left Sigmund on his own accord was when I met him.

And well, everyone knows how that ended.

So I guess Harrison's worries aren't unnecessary.

Before long I had arrived at the entrance to Harrison's quarter. I knocked at the wooden door a few times but was met with no response. I knocked again several times but still no response. Was he already asleep? it had been a few hours since the sunset, and I don't take Harrison to be a man who sleeps this early.

I waited for a few more moments before asking one of the passing knights.

"Oh Deputy Harrison? He left about half an hour ago for the prince's quarters."

Obviously. Am I so stupid? Where else would he be? And I was even thinking about how he never leaves Sigmund alone.

Hah, must be the eminent fear of death creeping on me. I can't think straight.

With haste I arrived near Sigmund's quarters. It was in the far eastern side of the mansion and heavily guarded because, well, Sigmund, and him being the overly trusting guy he is, he gave me the privilege to visit him anytime I wanted to. Which, to be honest is totally unintelligent, what if I was plotting a secret assaniation of him? Not that I am, but still, he a little too trusting for a prince.

Whatever, it works in my favour so I should really stop complaining.

As I approached the door to Sigmund's room, the two knights guarding it stopped me.

"Ey, If it isn't the jester! What brings you here? If it's to do with the 1st prince— which I suspect is highly likely, then you'll have to wait, he is busy with the deputy at the moment."

One of the knights spoke smugly. I really have come to develop a certain hate for my 'new' name this past week. As if my life wasn't a joke already.

Really though, what kind of surname is 'Jester' what? Was my father a joker or something?

At the surface level it might seem cool, but after 20 or so jokes about asking me to tell a joke, it gets old real quick.

"Haha, you guys know me well, but I'm not here for Sigmund this time, it's the deputy actually who I'm looking for. So if you may? I'm sure Sigmund wouldn't mind."

Please just let me pass, it's a matter of my life!

"Now now, we can't really do that you know, the deputy and the 1st prince are discussing something very important right now."

The second knight sharply declined my plea.

"Hey! Why don't you tell us a joke, 'Jester'? You know, entertain us a bit?"

The first knight teasingly said, though I can clearly hear malice dripping from his voice.

Hah, just fantastic. Another jester joke, I swear I'll kill myself before the system kills me - which seems awfully certain at the moment - before hearing another one of these redundant jokes!

Argh! Why can't these bul— no! fuckers just listen to me!

"H-Haha, come on guys, why don't we stop with these jokes already? Please just let me pass, it's very urgent."

"Nope, can't do that, deputy has given us explicit orders to not let anyone disturb him while he is talking to the prince."

Goddammit what the hell am I suppose to do? I can't really do anything to these guys, I am fucking pathetic in every aspect excluding my INT and SPD. Though I doubt they would help me much against these muscle brains. And the more I wait, the less time I get to save my life!

It's hopeless after all isn't it?

Hah, I should ju—

"SOMEBODY! HELP ME!'

Wait, is that Sigmund's voice?

Ding!
