Chapter 34

I swallow and force my gaze to remain steady as I try to calm down my racing heart. He stands up from leaning and the deadly silence is broken by his combat boots as he inches toward me slowly and threateningly. I feel my way away from the table and take a step back for every step forward from him, trying to keep the distance between us. My back hits a wall and I try to scramble to the side but am immediately blocked by his arms landing on the wall on either side of me, level with my shoulders.

He towers over me, tilting his down and closer to me, leaving me nowhere else to look but into his scrutinizing eyes. I swallow past the lump in my throat again as my heart continues its racing rhythm. He notices my clear nervousness and a breathy chuckle escapes his lips and fans his intoxicating minty breath over my face. My lips party and suck in desperately needed breath of fresh air but I only end up breathing him in and muddling my mind and nerves more.
