“I wasn’t worried about you,” I argue defensively.

“Why were you asking what about me then?” he asks, raising a condescending eyebrow.

“Momentary blind curiosity. Caught in the moment sort of thing.”

“We had a moment now?” he goads me, chuckling.

“If you didn’t notice, I was well on my way to leaving you with Riley without so much as glance back,” I bite at him. “But you apparently are incapable of leaving me even though I told you not to help or save me ever again.”

“A thank you would suffice. Or is that not in your vocabulary?”

“If I don’t thank you, are you going toss me out of here on my ass again?”

“Maybe if you had your car. But since you always seem to find trouble if it’s there to find, the thought isn’t so appealing tonight.”

“Cute. You’re worried about me.”

“Don’t get ahead of yourself. I just wouldn’t actively put you in danger.”

“And you wouldn’t actively walk away if I was in it,” I challenge him.
