Chapter 88

The first bite takes like heaven and makes me moan and roll my eyes as I slide the fork out of my mouth. Ashford takes a seat next to me and digs in with his own fork. We take a couple of more bites in silence when my conversation with Tyler pops back into my mind.

“Tyler told me something interesting tonight,” I say, swallowing another bite.

“What’s that?” he asks me, raising a curious brow as he takes another bite then looks at me.

“He said that when he tried to do the shot off of me that you gave him a look like you’d kill him,” I answer, watching for a reaction but seeing none, his face entirely impassive.

“My face scares a lot of people,” he says, shrugging it off. “Besides, he was drunk.”

“It’s not true then?”

“No.”

“Why did you do the shot instead of him?”

“I knew you wouldn’t want him to. Figured I’d do you a favor since you were helping me.”

“What makes you think I’d be okay with or want you doing it?”
