Chapter 97

Connor POV

When I walk into the diner, Mary is practically jumping out of her skin with a huge smile on her face. Dread turns my stomach as I realize I’m not going to like this. I walk to the breakroom and hang my jacket up. I walk back to the front and she tries to block my way from behind the counter. I give her a look that says you know better and move her over then walk behind her and lean against the counter before pinning her with my eyes again.

“Let’s get this over with,” I tell her.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she replies coyly.

“Works for me.” I shrug and fold my arms over my chest, waiting and knowing she won’t last long.

“Who did you have here last night?”

“No one,” I answer, making sure to keep myself composed while memories of everything that happened here flash through my mind and start getting me worked up all over again.
