Chapter 160

I pull my arms from his grip and swiftly fix my sleeves, avoiding his gaze, answering him with an aloof voice. “Nothing. It was my fault.”

“Do not,” Connor commands crossly, his voice deadly lethal and serious. “Make excuses or blame yourself.” I can feel the fury rippling off of him all over again.

“Okay, he didn’t do this." Riley gestures toward Connor. "I would never do it,” Riley adds, realization dawning in his eyes and dulling the brightness I can always count on finding there. “He didn’t.” His words are a gasp of disbelief and shock. But when he looks around and hears no protests, he pales and looks sick.

“It’s fine,” I reassure him, waving off his concern. “You know me and my mouth. I egged him on and pushed him to it. I really don’t want to make this a thing.”

“Your mouth has never made me hurt you,” he fumes. “This isn’t okay. Connor’s right; don’t blame yourself or make excuses for him.”
