Talk

I follow Liam as he leads me to a dark hallway and try not to let my imagination clog my head with scenarios that will definitely not happen. "I don't think you should go to school tomorrow." Liam says, getting straight to the point. I scrunch up my face in confusion again for the third time tonight. Color me confused. "What?" I ask. Liam clears his throat and shifts uncomfortably again. "I said, I don't think you should go to school tomorrow, it's not-" Liam says again but unfortunately for him I interrupt before he can finish. "I heard what you said when you said it the first time." I shake my head. "I meant, why shouldn't I go to school?" I ask. Even though I'm not exactly thrilled about going to school, it's extremely important that I'm punctual. I'm in my senior year and I don't want to mess up any of the plans I have for this year and in the future. " Emerald." Liam says my name again and a shiver works its way down my spine. "I want you to be safe, and sending you to school tomorrow when there are people after you is not safe at all." He finishes. I narrow my eyes at Liam. I get that he wants me to be safe but I don't like the idea that he thinks I'll do whatever he says, whenever he says. "Do I have a say in this?" I ask Liam. I don't understand why Liam won't allow me to go to school; I'm not going to just stop going to school because some stupid people are after me. It is a public place so nothing entirely bad will happen, right? Anyways, I'll need a scholarship to go to college because of the career path I'm choosing and as we all know I'm not as rich as Liam. "Yes." Liam answers just as a idea pops up into my head. "Fine. I'll ask Spencer to be my body guard. That way anyone after me will think twice before doing anything stupid to hurt me." I explain to Liam just as Spencer appears on the scene. "Sarah told me to give you two some space but I had to see what's up with you guys." Spencer says as she stands next to me. I briefly explain to my best friend her position in my plan for school

tomorrow. Liam hasn't said anything yet about my plans but I can see the screws in his head turning. "Then that's settled then. " Spencer says. She turns to me. " Emerald, Sarah wanted to speak with you in the kitchen. I'll catch up with you, I just need to speak to Liam about something." Spencer finishes and I nod and leave. In the kitchen, I don't find Sarah so I get a cup of water to drink and take a breath of fresh air. The past few days have been so excessive, I haven't had a chance to sit and take a breath without being interrupted with a new issue, it's getting tiring. "Hello." A familiar voice says and I soon match it with Alex's face. I'm genuinely surprised to see him in here, it seems as if he actually lives here which is weird because Spencer does not seem to like him at all. "Hey Alex." I wave at him as he takes a seat beside me. I don't know why Spencer doesn't like him, he seems like a really friendly person.

After a few minutes, Alex puts me out of my misery completely by telling me humorous jokes that crack me up. I haven't laughed like this in a while and it feels refreshing. "Well, I'd better get going. I have school early in the morning." I tell Alex. He seems dismayed by this news but offers to walk me up to my room, which I gladly accept. "I'm so sorry for what happened today at the mall." I apologise for the second time on account of my best friend. Alex waves it off, like the gentleman he is even though Spencer was being obstinate and violent towards him. I thank him for his kindness and step into my room, closing the door behind me. I'm a bit surprised I actually found the room I'm staying in because this house is so big. The next morning I'm up at exactly 6 o'clock, I shower and get dressed in a few of the clothes Spencer had given me. "Good morning darling." Sarah's voice greets me as I step into the kitchen. She's wearing a beautiful dress that fits her pretty face and without lying she looks stunning. I send back an equally friendly greeting to Liam's mom, complimenting her on her beautiful dress. Spencer enters the kitchen looking like the walking dead but Sarah tells her how beautiful she looks. "I have to get going now, because I have some stuff to do at Barbara's house but I'll see you girls later." Sarah leaves as Spencer and I eat the breakfast she prepared for us both. Spencer drives us to school, sticking close to me like my body guard/ bestfriend. I observed that some of the students had started treating me better, most of the teachers even made me get away with not doing the homework that they gave last week. Even Miss Williams let me off the hook when I couldn't answer one of the questions she asked in class. Everyone was acting strange, but my day went so much better than any other Monday I had ever have. After school, Spencer and I decided to go downtown to get ice cream and food at one of our local diners. I couldn't wait to rub it in Liam's face, nothing had gone wrong and we were going home in one piece. No one had confronted us today, not even shotty Vanessa and her minions. It was too good to be true. In the diner Spencer seemed uneasy. "What is it?" I asked, worried. My best friend has been acting too weird, even for her. "Nothing." She lied, then when she saw my narrowed eyes she quickly told me the truth. "I have a strange feeling. Like someone's watching us." Spencer admitted and started to look around. "Let's go then, I don't want anything bad to happen. Today has been going so good." I told Spencer and she nodded. We both left a huge tip at our table and left to go home. On the way out two huge men stopped us. They seemed familiar but I could not identify them no matter how I tried. " Can we speak with your friend?" One of the men asked, motioning to me. Spencer shook her head fiercely. "No thanks. We have to get going." Spencer tried to move between the two men, her hand latchedon tightly on mine. "It'll only be for a few minutes." One of the men stopped us again, creating a barrier from our car. "Just a minute." Spencer turned her back to the men. "They're suspicious and there's no way I'm allowimg you to go anywhere with them." Spencer whispered hurriedly. I frantically looked at the men behind us, then at Spencer. "What are we going to do then?" I asked Spencer. For an answer, Spencer held my hand tighter than before and took off sprinting away from the men, with me closely behind her.
