Chapter 9

When Hector was finished patching up Felipe, the girl had waken up.

She was trying to set herself free. Her movement caused her to fall out of the bed and onto the floor, face first.

Felipe got up and went to her side, after an eye roll Hector went to help him.

“DON'T FUCKING TOUCH ME” said the girl trying to push their hands back by shaking her body.

“Would you stop that, We’re trying to help you.” Felipe said impatiently.

“I don't want your fucking help, let go of me” she snapped back.

Hector pulled the chair near and Felipe put her on it, and all her struggles were in vain.

Felipe straightened his back after taping her shoulders to the chair to stop her from falling back on the floor.

“Lets talk outside.” Hector said staring at the girl in front of him.

He could see the hatred in her eyes, he also saw anger but what was scaring him was the lack of fear itself in this tiny, barehanded woman who was tied up.

He had seen different types of threats in his lifetime, but he had learned the hard way that lack of fear is never a good sign, not in your friends and most definitely not in your enemies. He didn't like the idea of Felipe getting hurt. He had spent more time with Felipe than his actual father, He’s been with him since his birth, he preferred to die himself than to be there for his death too.

He kept his eyes on the girl as they walked out the door.

Hector closed the door behind him.

Felipe leaned against the wall and rubbed his eyed with his unharmed hand.

“What do you know about that?” Hector said pointing his head to the bedroom door.

“It’s Carlos fucking gift. When he handed me the keys to the house he said something about the ‘real gift’ being here. Jesus.” He suddenly brought his head up, his eyes widened “Do you think he knows?”

“No. Don't even worry about that. We have covered up everything. No one will ever know. I even have fake leads if someone decides to check into your record.”

“Then why would he do this?” Felipe said pointing to the room. ”It doesn't make any sense.” He took a deep sigh.

“Listen, why he did this is not really an issue. Years ago this was a tradition .” Hector said putting his hand on Felipe shoulder.

“The real question is what are we going to do with it. There is a river not that far from here, it leads to the ocean I can take it …” before hector could finish his sentence Felipe cut him off.

“No” he said firmly. “That won’t work” Felipe kept putting his hands through his hair.

“Well what do you suggest we do with it? It’s not like we can just let it go.”

her voice came through the door: “First of all ‘it’ has a name you assholes, and how about letting me decide for my fucking future myself?”

They both turned their heads toward the door, staring ,their faces covered with pure shock.

Felipe stood there with an open mouth and watched Hector barged in with a frown on his face.

Hector immediately met the girls eyes, fearlessly staring at him, as if she was challenging him.

“You were eavesdropping?”

“It’s not like I put a glass to the door, you two are loud, and it’s not like I could cover my ears.” She answered sarcastically, shaking her tied hands.

Felipe, now frustrated, stood in the door way, “and what’s your name?”

Hector turned his head to him with a disapproving look on his face. but before he could open his mouth the girl responded “I’m not gonna tell YOU. Why on earth would I share that information with my fucking abductors? ”

“Then what would be the point of us knowing you have one if we can’t know it?” Felipe said loosing his calm.

The girl face froze for a second, the expression on her face seemed funny to Felipe, but then again he was sleep deprived, most things would seem funny to him in this state.

“Well the point is that I’m not a freaking object. I have a name, identity and the ability to decide for myself. You can’t make plans for me and what to do to me without involving me in the decision, is that a good enough reason you ass? And stop smirking like that you sicko.” She seemed satisfied with herself, she was proud to come up with a quick comeback.

Felipe opened his mouth to give a response but Hector held his hand out. “don't encourage her, we don't have the time ”

“Why can’t you just let me go, I’ll sign something promising I won’t tell anything to anyone, are we good now?” she said with a sheepish smile.

“You have no idea what situation that would put all of us, including yourself, in.”

“Well why did you kidnap me in the first place?” she said with frustration.

“WE didn't do that, ok?” Felipe answered her, he was clearly offended by her accusation.

“Then who did?”

“That’s not important now, is it?”

“We don't have time for this.” Hector said taking his gun out.

“You have enough time to kill me, get rid of my body, Come back and clean up my blood, but not enough to tell me what the fuck is going on?” she said staring up at Hector who was getting closer to her, one determined step at a time.

“Hector I hate to admit it but she’s actually right. Carlos will be here in a few hours. What are we gonna do? ” Felipe said exhausted and hopeless.

Hector turned his head and glanced at Felipe still holding up his gun, aimed at the girl.
