Dragon's fire. Part three.

To reach the Battlefield, they needed three whole days. And now almost completing their journey, two of them, after a friendly long talk, turned into a really good friends. Dewei was telling him many stories from his life and also about his brother and Longwei told him everything about books, Philosophy, and science.

Dewei who was fascinated by Longwei's smartness said, "I didn't know that you are so smart when I first saw you. I thought that you have only your beauty, but I was wrong. Forgive me for that."

Longwei, who already felt comfort next to him, threw right to his face a snowball. "So you thought that I am stupid?!"

Dewei caught his hand which wanted to throw another snowball, he bent his head and whispered, "I thought so, because almost everyone in here, is stupid. But keep that in secret."

"So that's what you think of everyone, they are stupid?! You are so arrogant Dewei. You should learn manners from your brother."

"Yes. My brother is very well-mannered. Especially that night, when he was almost..."

Stopping him, Longwei pushed him so hard that he fell down. "Don't say that! That night is nothing."

Standing up Dewei's expression changed and become almost angry. Longwei, noticing this, walked away and the next moment he was already running away from him.

"You bastard! You just pushed me! How dare you?" Dewei cried and ran after him.

Like that, all these three days passed unnoticed. Even the heavy bags full of food did not feel at all.

But when they were almost near the battlefield, when they saw that the frosty mountain is left far behind, and now they were walking on the flat fields, their hearts stopped for a while and horror took control over them.

The closer they were, the more terrified there were. Feeling the smell of blood, the presence of death, the feeling of hopelessness, they became silent. Especially, Longwei. This was the first time when he was going right to that legendary battlefield where the the battle doesn't cease and where warriors know no rest, where the time had stopped and only the death plays its role.

Reading many stories and growing up with the horror of being on that battlefield one day, Longwei, now walking right to the center of that place, did not feel scared at all. On the contrary, he felt excited because there was Lei.

He looked around and saw nothing but a white steppe. The mountain was far behind and it was unbelievable for him that finally he had left that mountain. And now even if there was only a Battlefield ahead, he still felt some kind of freedom from these Frosty Mountain Peaks where everyone is trapped in cold hands of frost and blizzard.

Dewei who looked very nervous said, "Everytime I am here, I feel very scared. Even my words, are scared to express my scared thoughts."

Longwei, put the bag on his back, approaching Dewei from behind, he gently said, "Don't be scared. It won't help you."

"Maybe it helps. When you are scared, you can protect your life."

"But when you are cold to everything what is happening around you can do unbelievable things. Be cold, cold like these mountains."

Dewei tapped him on the back and slightly smiled. His eyes were full of tears and Longwei understood that he must stop talking now.

But even if he didn't feel any horror, still, he felt a goosebumps on his skin, as if he felt the presence of someone who can destroy you any minute.

And indeed, his feels weren't some ghostly visions of his imagination, what he was feeling was quite right, because there, all around, there were thousands of beasts who were attacking warriors without any stop.

Breaking the unpleasant silence Dewei suddenyl asked, "Have you ever seen that beasts?"

Remembering what Lei told him about that beast on the forest, he just replied, "No."

"I have seen many of them."

"How do they look like?"

"To say that they are scary and ugly is not enough. These creatures, are beyond our perception of what is terrifying."

"I bet they are very scary." Said Longwei and suddenly he heard someone's loud cry. "What was that?"

"This is a war. Warriors are dying here. So don't get surprised."

Now, feeling a bit scared, the upcoming panic hit his senses. Imagining his father, dying on that field, he felt dizziness and the vomit hit his throat.

"Longwei are you alright? What is it? Longwei?"

"Nothing, I am just... I am fine." Trying to breath normally he imagined the Sun, the warmth and green fields with flowers, he imagined his father, living happily among such beautiful scenery, feeling a bit calm, he continued his walk.

Strangely enough, when they have reached The Battlefield Longwei did not see the field itself. All he saw was the narrow entrance to some kind of cave which was under a tall trees.

"What is it?" He asked looking bewildered at Dewei who was pushing the bag inside of the cave.

"This is the place where our mission ends. The delivered food will be here and we too, will stop here."

"Yes. But what about the Battlefield? I thought we will go there."

"Silly boy, you think that it is a good idea to go there unprepared. If you want to go there you should finish your study, you should gain some respect, you should show your martial abilities. And only then you will be able to fight there. This battlefield, even if it is scary, but it is the only sign that you are brave enough and strong enough to fight there. So don't think that it is some kind of place where you can easily walk." Noticing Longwei's surprised expression he exclaimed, "Help me now! Why do you think I asked for help?! Come on! Don't stand there!"

Once they were inside of the cave, it turned out that this cave was actually a wide space which looked more like a place where warriors can rest, eat and hide for a while.

Surprisingly enough, there were lots of candles burning and there were too many warriors who were sitting like a statues. Unmovable, with frozen eyes, they seemed to be in a deep shock.

Longwei, trying not to look into their eyes, passed by one of the warriors and the next what he felt was very strong grip. The warrior whose face was bandaged tightly squeezed his hand and his mad eyes pierced him to the bone. His mouth was closed with a thick bondage, but Longwei could hear that man's internal scream through his look. The warrior started to shake his head as a crazy one. And a strange loud bellow came out from the depth of his wounded soul.

Longwei, feeling a bit scared wanted to free himself from that grip, but the man tightened it even more.

"Do you need any help?" Longwei asked and heard a strange kind of laughter from around. Other warriors who were sitting motionless began to laugh as he said a joke.

Longwei tried to find Dewei, but he wasn't there.

Feeling pain and numbness in his left hand, he said, "Let me go." But the man did not listen to him. Looking into his eyes, the man made another strange sound and then he stood up. His other parts of body seemed healthy, only his face was injured. And his mind.

Having muscular complexion, the warrior was shorter than Longwei, weakening his grip, he stepped closer to him and reaching out he wanted to touch his face but the very same moment someone's big hand stopped him. Catching his hand, someone who was behind of Longwei pushed the warrior aside.

Longwei without turning back, kept looking at the warrior who was already lying on the floor like a dead man. "Why did you left me here? Where have you been?" He asked.

"Why are you here?" Suddenly a very familiar voice was heard from behind.

Slowly turning around, Longwei saw Lei.

Standing close to him, Lei with his serious expression asked again, "What are you doing here?"

"He is with me. I needed help so I brought him with me." Dewei said. Approaching them, he looked at his brother and happily smiled. "Brother, don't get angry. Everything is alright with him. And it wasn't me who made him go. He said himself that he want to go."

Lei who was keep looking at Longwei said, "The food is here. You can go now."

"Let us stay for a while. We've been walking for three days. We are tired, let us warm ourselves at least."

Lei looked at his brother angrily and repeated, "Go now."

"But brother"

"I said you should go. It is not a place where you can rest."

"Hey brother Lei! Why are you so cruel? Why can't they stay here for a while. Beasts can't come here. So why are you acting like a jerk?! Let them stay!" Someone said from afar.

"Look outside! There is a blizzard again. I don't think that it is a good idea to climb to that mountain in such a crazy blizzard. Let them wait here until it'll calm down." said another warrior who was lying by the fire.

Lei looked at Longwei again but without saying anything went away.
