The last thing Jack remembered was being suspended in infinite darkness, deprived of his senses, floating aimlessly for what seemed like an eternity. He was thinking about where his life had gone wrong. Nothing came to his mind. He had a very uneventful life so far.
Jack Summer was a college student studying in a small engineering college in a very remote location. This was because he had not gotten into the university of his choice. He blamed it on the education system. Jack was finally going to graduate from his 4 years of college. Four gruelling and depressing years of college. He had no friends, obviously no girlfriend and was living alone in a small apartment away from his hometown. Jack was of average build, not too fat not too skinny. His looks were also mediocre at best. The only thing in his favour was the thirst to learn which the college education system had taken away from him. He could not conform to the educational system at all. He was not a database; he wanted to learn and not just remember. Jack had finally managed to pass all the classes and was just a day away from being free from this college.
On the night before the graduation ceremony, while everyone was partying, Jack was alone in his small room. Tired of his lonely life he decided to go out for a celebratory dinner. Just as he reached the train station, he saw a guy being held at gunpoint by some thugs. Jack was about to call the police when he heard the gunshot. For a moment Jack was unable to do anything, he couldn't tell what was happening. Sudden sharp pain in his abdomen brought him back to his senses. He was shot in the stomach by a stray bullet.
"So, this is how I die?", he thought to himself.
This was one of the worst and most unfortunate ways to die in his opinion behind death by overwork and the absolute worst being getting hit by a truck. The adrenaline was now wearing off and the searing pain of the wound was unbearable. He felt sudden chills all over his body, he was hot and cold at the same time. He closed his eyes for the final time thinking that his life would flash before his eyes but nothing of that sort happened. He was just drifting in the dark abyss. He did not know how much time had passed since he was here, the dark void-like space. He could not see, hear or even feel anything.
When he opened his eyes, he was surprised to find out that he was still alive. He still could not move his body. He heard a sudden sound that startled him and suddenly his vision got blurry. He was crying.
"Why am I crying?"
He had not cried in years, and this made him feel a bit lighter. He felt the gentle motherly caress on his forehead. He saw a beautiful woman with long chocolate brown hair and gentle facial features. She gave him the feeling that he was safe in her hands. The woman was saying something to a man more like she was scolding him. The man was also good-looking with short, trimmed jet-black hair, probably in his late twenties with strong muscles. This was the moment that Jack realized, he was not Jack anymore. The realization was sudden and shook him to his core, he was a baby!
Dejected at first, Jack quickly became happy that he was going to start his life again. He decided to make this life count, make friends and learn new things. Jack soon learned that the world that he was now living in was very different from the world he was used to. The most shocking of all was that this world had magic! The house he lived in was pretty big. He had seen the house many times with his nanny. He found out that he was born into an aristocratic family. Jack Summer was no more he was now Alexander Greymore the firstborn son of a Count with a big County.
Five years passed. In those five years, Alex decided to gain control over his body before he could do anything else. Being a baby with the conscience of a young adult was not that easy. He did not have any command over his bodily functions and had to be taken care of by the nanny. Ashamed at first, Alex decided to go with the flow and just bear the embarrassment and shame until he was able to do all these on his own. The four years of college had broken him and this five-year gap was the perfect thing for Alex at this time in his life. He looked in a mirror for the first time after coming to this world. Alex was pleasantly surprised to find out that he had inherited his father's hair colour but had his mother's facial features. Needless to say, he was a really cute baby.
"Genetics are scary!", Alex thought.
Alex started learning about this wonderful world from his tutor. His tutor Mr Hound was a friend of William and a former adventurer himself.
"Listen, kid, Magic is a scary thing! Are you sure you want me to show ya?", Mr Hound asked Alex.
"Yes, please, Mista Hound", Alex said with puppy eyes.
"Fine.", said Mr Hound. He couldn't resist the puppy eyes.
He always tried to act in a way that a gentleman would, but from time to time his unruly adventurer self would show through the facade. Mr Hound was the perfect tutor for Alex as he did not force Alex to remember stuff. He taught Alex the theory and left him to his own devices. This encouraged Alex to try different things and adapt to his surroundings. Alex learned that the world consisted of mana. Everyone and everything had mana in this world but some were more gifted than others and even among them only the people who trained their skills made it to the top. One such example was his father, William Greymore.
William Greymore was a former adventurer and had been given the Count title for his achievements in the war. He was looked down upon by the other nobles because he did not inherit the title but was rather awarded the title. And the hate was also because of William's popularity among the ladies. Being a war hero and now the position that he held, he was the perfect marriage candidate. He had married Rovena Blackwater the first daughter of Count Blackwater, who was known for his mastery of magic. The Count had accepted William because of the dedication and the sincerity with which William had learned magic. The Count preferred achievements and abilities over family legacies.
Alex was a fast learner more so than an average teenager. Which was to be a given as he had the memories of his previous life. He had already learned how to read and had read a few books all by the age of five. The knowledge of his previous life was not very useful at least for now. This world was called Acelfabia which was divided into a variety of different continents but the main continent was Accel where most of the population was concentrated. This had piqued Alex's interest and he made up his mind to travel the world to live his life to the fullest.
The technology in this world was not advanced but had developed in a different direction. Magic had changed the whole make-up of the technology in this world. The existence of magic had sparked the lost joy of learning in him and thus he began his journey with a newfound passion and a path full of new and exciting experiences in another world.
