New Beginnings

The towering gates of the Arcane Citadel loomed over Alex and Ed as they stepped into the magical academy. The evening air was filled with a sense of anticipation, and the sprawling grounds unfolded before them, revealing dimly lit corridors that seemed to lead to mysterious realms. The vastness of the academy campus unravelled before them, leaving them in awe of its sheer size. Beautifully decorated enchanted gardens adorned with vibrant flora and magical creatures greeted them, creating an otherworldly atmosphere.

Ed, usually composed and serious, couldn't contain his excitement. "Where do you think we'll be staying?" he asked, a rare giddiness colouring his tone.

A mischievous glint lit up Alex's eyes as he responded, "I don't know, but it would be cool if we get to share a room, you know." The thought of having a friend with you every step of the way in his school life was something that Alex craved.

They were greeted by a young teacher with emerald-green eyes, vibrant green hair, and a short, busty build. Alex noticed her pointy ears and guessed correctly that she was indeed an elf. Alex could not see her magic circle level which usually meant that the magician was adept enough to conceal their level. Elves were said to have more magic power than other species and longer lifespans. The only downside was that in their lifetime they could only use a single element and rarely displayed any affinity to the fire element.

"Welcome to Arcane Citadel. I am Solana Rorieth," she announced, her voice carrying a melodic quality. "You must be Alex Greymore and Edward Crowe." She nodded in acknowledgement after glancing at their letters.

"Hello, pleasure to meet you. I am Alex Greymore," Alex greeted her with a courteous nod.

"And I am Edward Crow," Ed added.

With a dreamy tone, Solana continued, "Let us head to your rooms, or shall I say room." A mysterious smile played on her lips. "Here at Arcane Citadel, accommodations are decided based on your affinities and magic circles. I was pleasantly surprised when both of you were pointed to the same room."

"Thank you?" Alex and Ed exchanged quizzical glances, curious about the magical criteria that led to this arrangement.

The academy's expansive campus revealed a mix of architectural wonders. Instead of the expected towering tower, they were escorted to a manor with a substantial adjacent yard. The whole bottom floor of the manor was granted to them, and the vast yard was designated for their magical training. Solana mentioned that they were each entitled to a servant, an offer both Alex and Ed politely declined.

They bid the teacher good night and went inside the manor to see what was inside. The manor was large with several rooms on the lower floor. One big living room space and rooms at either end of the house. The upper floor was built the same with more rooms on top. Alex decided to take a room on the left of the manor whereas Ed decided on the one on the right. Both of them picked out a room for themself and without saying anything they just crashed.

As night descended, the dimly lit corridors transformed into enchanting pathways illuminated by the soft glow of magical lights. Butterflies and other ethereal critters flitted about, adding a touch of whimsy to the surroundings. The beauty of the enchanted gardens became even more mesmerizing under the moonlit sky. But they were not awake to see it.

The next morning, a stark contrast awaited them. The once magical nocturnal scenery gave way to the vibrant colours of daylight. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting a warm glow on the academy grounds.

The first rays of morning sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow on the room where Alex lay in deep slumber. As his consciousness stirred, he became aware of a gentle hum resonating through the manor. It started as a soft melody, gradually gaining intensity. The harmonious notes wrapped around the room, acting as a gentle lullaby coaxing them awake. Alex, still half in the realm of dreams, mumbled, "Is that music?" he blinked his eyes open, realizing the sounds were not from an instrument but a peculiar built-in clock within the manor. The whole manor was producing the sound. He came out of his room and saw Ed was there as well rubbing his eyes.

"That's one way to wake us up," Ed said with a yawn.

"Sure is. Hope this magical alarm clock doesn't become a trend. I won't get any sleep at home then," Alex replied with a smirk.

After a quick wash and change, they stepped into the yard, greeted by the crisp morning air. With a shared nod, Alex and Ed decided to dive into their routine training. The rhythmic whooshing of swords cut through the tranquillity of the morning, a symphony of metal meeting air. Alex, with his versatile magic abilities, added a unique layer to the soundscape. In the intervals between sword swings, elemental echoes resonated as he practised with different affinities. He had confided in Ed about his ability to wield all elemental affinities.

Alex and Ed decided to unleash their faithful companions, Umbra and Lux. With a simple summoning gesture, the majestic fenrirs emerged, their forms now fully grown and radiating a powerful aura. Umbra, with his sleek black fur, bore the emblem of a crescent moon atop his head, a symbol of the affinity he shared with Alex. Lux, in contrast, boasted a pristine white coat and proudly displayed a sun symbol on her forehead, aligning with Ed's affinity. The fenrirs greeted their masters with a series of joyous barks, and the four of them embarked on their morning training routine. The air echoed with the sounds of elemental magic, the whooshing of swords, and the rhythmic paws of Umbra and Lux, creating a harmonious symphony in the enchanted yard of the manor.

Done with their impromptu training, Solana Rorieth, their guide, appeared at their doorstep. Her emerald-green eyes held a nod of approval for their magical display. "Impressive for the early morning," she remarked with a hint of a smile. Alex couldn't help but notice a glint of fascination in her eyes as they lingered on Umbra and Lux, the mythical fenrirs. He exchanged a glance with Ed, realizing they had let out their fenrirs but hadn't told Solana beforehand about them. In her internal monologue, Solana mused, "A rare bond indeed. No wonder the manor chose to accommodate them. The affinity between magicians and their familiars speaks volumes, and these two seem to have an extraordinary connection with their fenrirs." With a subtle gesture, she led the trio towards the main castle.

As Solana led Alex and Ed through the enchanting pathways towards the main castle, a peculiar magic enveloped them. In the blink of an eye, the sprawling campus transformed, and Alex and Ed found themselves standing in front of an imposing door. It was red and intricately designed with gold. The abrupt teleportation left Alex intrigued, his curiosity growing but it had to be cut short as-.

"Enter!" Came a voice from within and the door swung open.
