~~~(POV: Durado)~~~
I've come to realize that there is much more to taking on Teller-Bravo than I realized. Now that I'm back in Newton-14, it's time that I met up with Kendra Flows. She's had long enough to find the information that I need. Hopefully, she's got something useful too.
Cowl had plenty of things I needed to know, but there are other things that I wish to have when I'm taking on Teller-Bravo. The streets are packed. It's a little hard to navigate right now. It usually doesn't bother me at all. For some reason, though... Something feels off about all this.
The crowd is normal, and so is everything else. My main concern is I feel like I'm being watched. I rarely feel like this. I see the spaceport up ahead, and my next stop is the bounty hunter HQ. Maybe I won't feel this way on the inside of friendly territory.
I walk through the doors, and I feel everyone's eyes shift on me. I slowly look around the room, and almost everyone has their hands on their weapons. Something isn't right. No one messes with me, especially in a bounty hunter HQ. Most are too scared to talk to me. I'm not moving an inch.
I dart my hand on my two holsters and hold the handles of my guns. Everyone in the room gets stiff and nervous. "Let him through. He'll figure it out soon enough." I look and see Ollie shining some glasses at the bar. I make my way toward the door to the backroom.
Keeping my hands on my weapons. I look at the guard, and he is looking at me strangely too. I walk through the door, and make my way toward the room. I relax just a little. Something's happened since I was gone. Something that I don't know about.
I sit down on the couch, and I call Kendra. She immediately picks up, and I can see the stressed-out look on her face. "You're a real son of a bitch, Durado..." She's whispering to me for some reason.
I don't know why she's acting like this. "You could've warned me that I was going after something so fucking dangerous... Not to mention that you have a goddamn bounty on your head..." A bounty? On me?
That explains the strange looks I was getting earlier... Why everyone was so eager for a fight. It must be pretty big to motivate such small-time hunters.
I fold my arms and make a sigh. "What did you find?" I'm not going to waste time asking her if she's okay or not. She obviously is.
She looks at me as if her opinion of me has fallen a little bit. "All I was able to find out is that Heroor wasn't actually sterilized. Teller-Bravo lied and covered that little fact up. I hope this helps... If you call again. I'm not picking it up next time. We're done, Durado." She hangs up the call, and I find myself at an impasse.
Cowl said that the planet was sterilized, but Kendra's saying that Teller-Bravo faked it. I'll have to check for myself.
This means that I have a game plan—time to go and inform Scott about what we're doing first. Heading to Heroor can be dangerous. Who knows how much of Teller-Bravo's still there? Their megacorp spans across the known universe.
I'm going to find my daughter. Even if it's the last thing, I do. Now I have something else to take care of. I pick up the datapad on the table and search the bounty listings. As soon as I turn it on, I can see my name and face at the top of the highest bounties list. As I look at the number, I can see why so many were eager to kill me.
Teller-Bravo is offering 5 Trillion credits for me. Dead or alive. That's Trillion with a capital T. The only good news is it hasn't been approved in other systems yet. Once we leave Empyrian, I'll be safe for a little bit. But it won't be long until Teller-Bravo bribes every system that I go to.
It's a good thing I'm heading to one that they're in. Scott is a smart kid, and he'll be handy during this trip. I don't know how smart the kid is, but I do know that when Kalarians allow you to stay with them. You've got a good brain in your head.
