The Testing Room Pt.2

Adam started sprinting towards the black wolf.

He was faster than the monster.

But it was surprising to see that the black wolf was a bit faster than the Gray Wolf, even though it was much bigger.

'I thought they would be the same rank, but that must be wrong. I thought this one sacrificed Agility for Strength while maintaining its Sense Stat. But that's not the case. It's superior to the Gray Wolf...in every aspect.'

The distance between the two was closed in an instant.

The black monster jumped up towards Adam with great force. Both its paws showed sharp claws.

Seeing this, Adam did not slow down.

Instead, he used the momentum from his sprint to slip on the white floor.

He slipped beneath the giant wolf.

While the monster was in mid-air above him, Adam raised his Old Assassin's Dagger to slash the monster's whole stomach open.

The wolf cried because of the immense pain it felt as it fell to the ground behind Adam.

Meanwhile, Adam stood up, turned towards it and jumped back.

The wolf's whole stomach was opened up.

It bled an insane amount of blood.

Adam looked at it with pity.

He took a slow step towards it.

'I have to put it outside of its misery...'

Just when he thought that, the wolf quickly got up and showed its teeth once more.

This time, it didn't attack.

'It's probably losing Health Points rapidly because of the bleeding. It'll die anyway, but...'

Adam raised his weapons once more.

Just when the monster was about to growl once more, a Fire Ball hit its back.

As soon as the Fire Ball touched the monster's body, Adam launched himself towards the wolf and swung his sword.

The wolf dodged by jumping back.

'It didn't even flinch. Even though I can clearly see that the Fire Ball burnt it. It's stong.'

Even though Adam acknowledged the monster's strength, the difference in strength was overwhelming.

The wolf knew that. Which is why it wasn't attacking anymore.

It knew that its position had gone from predator to prey extremely quickly.

All it could do was stand back and growl fiercely.

Adam lowered his weapons.

'It's fighting for its life. It's desperately struggling for its life. Just like I would...just like I did.'

Adam put his weapons inside his storage.

'Am sorry. But I will continue this. I'll make it quick.'

Purple aura engulfed Adam's hands.

The wolf stopped growling. It looked at its opponent.

The aura slowly took form.

'I'll use 30% of my Max Mana Points on the Arrow, and 70% on the Bow. I have to make ir quick.'

Adam aimed his arrow at the wolf.

Meanwhile, Python shot a Fire Ball.

The wolf was smart, but of course, it had no idea that Adam was preparing an attack from far away.

It turned towards the incoming Fire Ball and dodged.

That's when Adam let go of his Conjured Arrow.

It pierced the monster's side and made its way across its body before exiting it from the other side.

The wolf turned towards Adam, before falling to the ground.

[ You have defeated a Black Wolf Alpha.]

[Congratulations! You have passed Test Number 5.]

'Is that so? Black Wolf Alpha, huh? Somehow, this fight leaves a bad taste in my mouth...'

"Rank?" Adam asked.

[ A Black Wolf Alpha's rank in [E-]. ]

"As I thought." Adam said as he walked towards his starting position while drinking Mana Potions.

[The One That Gambles Against All Odds tells A Certain Evil to prepare the Gold Coins.]

[The Old Wolf is saddened by the death of its brethren and believes that the Gold Coins will cheer it up.]

[ A Certain Evil says that nothing is decided yet, as it is only the 5th Test.]

'This is getting annoying. They're betting about my life here.'

[ 5 Seconds left.]

This time, the monster that appeared was finally a two-legged humanoid one.

"Hobgoblin?" Adam muttered.

Although its skin was green, the monster was bigger than the Hobgoblins Adam had fought before. It was much more muscular and was taller than him by at least 20 centimeters. Two lower fangs were going out of its mouth.

[ Incorrect. It is an Orc. The rank cannot be divulged, as you have never defeated an Orc.]

'Let's change that then.'

The Orc stood around and walked aimlessly.

Its senses were much duller than Adam's previous opponents.

'It's all muscle, no brain. Alright.'

At the moment, the Orc was standing sideways in front of Adam.

'Let's attack it from behind and end this quickly.'

Adam sprinted towards the Orc as fast as he could.

Once the distance was about 10 meters, the Orc finally noticed him and turned towards him.

It was unarmed, but it roared ferociously.

Adam's whole being shook at that roar.

But he used a Skill that decided the match in an instant.

'Temporary Concealment.'

The opponent in front of it disappeared.

The Orc was extremely confused and looked around for the small opponent.

But the next moment, it felt an extreme pain coming from its back.

It screamed briefly, before falling to the ground.

[ You have defeated one Orc.]

[Congratulations! You have passed Test Number 6.]

Adam only had five seconds of invisibility, so he used them to sneak up behind the Orc, and stab it with both his weapons.

The Black Widow's Sword has an Attack Power of 110.

The Old Assassin's Dagger had an Attack Power of 150 when backstabbing an opponent.

Since the resemblance with a Hobgoblin was obvious, Adam knew that this would be enough to kill it.

Adam took his position once more.

It kind of became a routine at this point.

'This Skill will be extremely important here. Since the fights are 1-on-1. I can only use it once every 5 minutes though...'

"Rank?"

[The rank of an Orc is [E-].]

"Can't I skip some of these?"

[You can only skip one Test at a time. You can also ask what the next Test will be.]

"What? Why didn't you say that already? I thought it was supposed to always be a surprise. Anyway, what's the next Test?"

[The next test will be one Red Orc.]

'I've already fought a normal orc. These must be [E] rank then...Can't skip to higher than that. Although this one might be taxing. Am pretty sure I can take it on but...'

[ 10 Seconds left.]

"Too late. Guess I'll start with this one first."

10 seconds later, the Red Orc appeared.

It looked a bit bigger, but Adam wasn't sure.

The only noticeable difference was that it was completely red.

'Its skin might be tougher...'

Once again, the monster did not sense Adam's presence.

'Should I just...'

Adam put his weapons back in his Inventory and once again conjured a Bow and Arrow.

'I'll use 40% of Max Mana Points for the Bow. Three Arrows. Each 20% of my Max Mana Points. Let's make them for one minute.'

The Conjured Arrows had a duration of a minute and thirty seconds.

The Bow had a duration of a minute and ten seconds.

'That's annoying. Power is being wasted then.' He thought as he replenished his Mana Points by drinking Mana Potions.

"Alright." He whispered.

The Red Orc was moving aimlessly.

Adam was facing the monster's wide back.

He readied his arrow and shot it straight away.

It penetrated the monster's back and was embedded there deeply.

The Red Orc turned around slowly, without making a sound.

'Did that not hurt it?'

Adam had expected a growl or a cry of pain.

Instead, the Red Orc stared at him from afar.

Adam readied his second Conjured Arrow.

The Red Orc suddenly started sprinting towards Adam with its upper body bent forward.

It looked ready to eat him up. The thought made adam shudder.

Still, he waited for the monster to get closer and closer.

Once it was about 7meters away, he let go of his arrow aimed at the monster's neck.

The monster reacted to the arrow and moved its body.

The Arrow was now embedded in its right shoulder.

'Shit. Probably not a weakpoint.'

The Red Orc did not even slow down.

It swung its right fist at Adam from above.

He easily evaded it by dodging on his left and shot his third arrow while the Orc's arm was down.

The arrow hit the monster's side.

Adam proceeded to jump back a couple of times to create some distance.

It was also important to get the monster to face on the other side of the corner where Python was, so that the Fire Balls have a surprise element to them.

Adam's Bow disappeared.

'Nice. I wasted some time drinking potions, but the timing was great.'

The Red Orc turned to face Adam.

It roared extremely loudly.

Adam didn't give it a thought and took his two weapons out.

'Let's not use the Vest. Since am a lot faster. This one has a lot of Health Points though.'

The monster sprinted towards him.

Adam waited for him with his weapons raised.

The Red Orc swung its left fist horizontally.

Adam dodged the attack by lowering his body and getting closer to the monster's left side.

He slashed its side with his Old Assassin's Dagger.

[Your Old Assassin's Dagger has hit a monster's weak point. Damage dealt goes up by 150%.]

The monster was getting angrier and angrier.

Which made its attacks easier to read.

Thanks to Adam's high Sense Stat, the movements of a big and slow enemy were easy to see.

And thanks to his high Agility Stat, they were also easy to evade.

The monster quickly raised both arms up and tried slamming them down on Adam's skull.

He evaded it by jumping back. Not only did he dodge his attack, he also swung his Black Widow's Sword horizontally towards the monster's clenched fists.

It lost both hands and lots of green blood started pouring out.

"Gross." Adam said out loud.

'Green blood, even though its body is red.'

Adam jumped back as the monster started swinging its arms randomly in every direction.

The Conjured Arrows Adam had shot at the monster disappeared.

Blood started flowing out of those wounds as well.

A Fire Ball hit the monster's back, but it did not even turn towards where it came from.

After a bit, the monster fell to its knees.

It had lost too much blood.

'Should I finish it? It could be a trap. More than that, I don't want to finish it.'

Adam hated finishing humanoid monsters. He had no problem with wolves or spiders, but monsters that resembled humans even a little bit made him feel very weird.

He decided to sit down and recover his Endurance Points.

"Might as well, since there's only a 1-minute break between Tests. Let's let it go down slowly....Sorry..." Adam muttered.

A second Fire Ball hit the monster's back.

"Python, stop attacking." Adam shouted at the Fire Salamander.

It took the monster about 3 minutes before it died of blood loss.

[ You have defeated one Red Orc.]

[Congratulations! You have passed Test Number 7.]

Adam did not like it, but it was the most strategic thing to do, he thought.

"Endurance Points." He said before the monster's body disappeared.

[ Endurance Points: 180/210. ]

'Should be good.'

"What's the next Test?"

[ The next Test will be one Mutated Polar Bear.]

'Sounds pretty cool. I can't skip these though. The fights are getting tougher. This one might be when I tap out.' Adam thought as he waited for the monster to appear.

"Rank of the Red Orc?"

[ The Rank of the Red Orc is [E]. ]

'As I thought. As strong as a Spider Queen's Guard. Those were invisible, agile, had sharp senses and could use paralyzing poison. This one only had extremely high Strength. I'm sure one hit would have been enough to knock me out. Thank god my Agility is high. I can now use my Temporary Concealment Skill, so let's continue.'

A few seconds later, a blinding white light appeared.

Right after that, a giant white bear with red eyes appeared.

The Mutated Polar Bear.

It appeared standing on its two back legs, which made it look giant-like.

The size of a fully grown Polar Bear usually is anywhere from 2.5 to 3meters.

But this one was about two times that.

And the fact that it was standing made it look even more massive.

It was basically as tall as two elephants stacked one on top of the other.

It stretched its paws upwards and away.

The bear appeared facing Adam.

His whole body shivered and his left leg did not stop trembling at the sight.

It immediately noticed him, opened its huge mouth and let out a terrifying roar.

Adam unconsciously took a step back.

He let go of his Old Assassin's Dagger without meaning to.

'How can I....beat this?'
