For either zombies or superfunctions, there were ten levels. The upgrading of one level would come with incredible fighting capacity. This was one of the reasons why a group of men with level-2 superfunctions like them barely defeated a level-3 zombie and nearly died in Lingjiang City. Sure, the major reason could be that they had exhausted too much strength before fighting the level-3 zombie and the level-3 zombie used to be a man with superfunction when he was alive. Even so, the huge gap between level-3 and level-2 was the main reason as well.
Let's take Yun Che as an example. He used to have level-2 superfunction. From the base to Wei City, he nearly exhausted all his superfunction by maintaining the air membrane around the Cruiser. At last, he was so tired that he could hardly keep his eyes open. Right at this moment, however, he had level-3 superfunction. The trip from Wei City to the fifth ring also consumed much of his superfunction. Yet he was still okay.
"There are several surviving bases around the provincial capital, most of which were built by the local government. We don't know their specifications until we go and have a look. Oh, there are also some private bases. They're scarcely bases, in fact. As for the anti-zombie teams merely consisting of dozens of people, they're too numerous to be counted. Where shall we start then?"
As they arrived in the provincial capital, Yang Huaien turned on the radio, writing down the address of each base carefully.
"It's getting late. Let's find somewhere to put up. Tomorrow, we're going to Yafei's home. If her family members have died, we don't need to keep looking for them. If they're still alive and have left home, maybe they left some clues," said Yun Che, looking at the gloomy weather.
Just as he said the word "die", Zhan Yafei, sitting in the front passenger's seat, froze sharply. She bunched her hands, that were on her knees, into fists. Yun Che noticed that, but he didn't say anything to comfort her. He knew exactly how she was feeling. Also, he knew nothing could made her feel better. She might get worse if anyone tried to mend it up.
"Mm. Maybe they've been staying at home."
Xing Feng nodded. It had been less than one month since the doomsday. An ordinary family, even if there wasn't too much food storage, should at least have some rice. No one could rule out the possibility that Zhan Yafei's family members had activated their superfunctions. Even if some of them had the fire superfunction, they could easily cook. Without any definite information, they should take every possibility into consideration, however slim it might be.
"There's a base nearby, I guess. Shall we go and have a rest there?" asked Yang Huaien, for Xing Feng's instruction as he looked up for the data he had just written down.
"Don't bother. We'll just stay over in whatever house we can see."
It wasn't Xing Feng who replied, but Yun Che. Anyway, he knew exactly how annoying those small bases were. The team were mostly wounded. They might not even be allowed to get in. Even if they were, there would be trouble when getting out tomorrow morning. Oh, what was worse, one had to pay a lot for the entering a small base.
Since Xing Feng agreed on Yun Che's proposal, no one else would argue. As they approached the fifth ring, Leng Yehan, who was driving the Cruiser, pulled up in front of a two-story house by the roadside. They jumped out of the Cruiser and climbed over the wall skillfully. Within minutes, they got into the house and annihilated zombies inside it.
"Mm… It feels so good, at last!"
They clustered in the central room of the first floor, and after some simple cleaning, they took out the dishes Yun Yao made them and devoured. Chu Haoling, without doubt, was the hungriest.
"Not hungry?" asked Xing Feng, confused. He totally ignored Chu Haoling who could always sacrifice anything for delicacies, yet he noticed that Yun Che hardly started his dinner. They had the last meal at around nine in the morning after which they headed for the steel factory. It was already four when they left there. For the inconvenience to enjoy dishes in the Cruiser, they had only some bread. Unsurprisingly, everyone should be starving!
"I am," replied Yun Che, "But seems like I've got an amazing auxiliary function from the upgrading. I'm working on it."
Yun Che regained consciousness and stared straight ahead. For the rest of the team, he looked like an idiot. But he himself knew clearly that he was staring at a large virtual screen which popped out right in front of him. On the screen, there were small dots of different colors. Red dots and green dots had the highest number. Dots of other colors were, on the country, very few. Some of the dots moved slowly. Looked like it was a monitoring map.
