House Renovation

"He's going to come out with his greater revenge, you know?"

Xing Feng witnessed the whole thing and made his teasing remark. Gu Mingxuan and the other three all nodded. Che did the job so neatly, but when Heiyu figured it all out…

"Hehe. He is cheeky, but he cares about his master. I'm still injured, you know?"

Yun Che really knew how to take advantage of his injury, though he, too, was worried about Heiyu's comeback revenge.

"Are you?"

Yun Yao happened to pass by after cleaning the dining the table. Immediately, she rushed over to him. Yun Che calmed her, "It's OK. Zombie fire roasted my arm. Look, it's nearly healed."

Yun Che showed Yun Yao his glossy, white arm. There was no trace of injury at all.

"You should have at least told me. Just be careful in the future. You're the only one Chengchen, Cheng, and I got. We would be lost without you."

Yun Yao was reassured after scrutinizing Yun Che's arm, but she still gave him a proper warning. Cheng had already become a zombie, she couldn't imagine bad things happening to another brother of hers.

"I haven't got around to it. Come on, sis, I got injured all the time, don't be so dramatic. It's not like my previous life, the zombie that can take my life isn't out there yet."

Yun Che semi-jokingly soothed his sister with one arm around her.

"Hey, it's serious."

Knowing that he would say so, Yun Yao scowled at him. Yun Che knew his sister wasn't really mad, he showed no change in his attitude. "Why do I need to be serious at home? It's 2 o'clock, sis, why don't you go take a nap?"

"Whatever! You can never stop upsetting me. I repeat, just be careful, OK?"

"I got it, I got it."

"You guys carry on. I'm going upstairs to have a chat with Yafei."

Yun Yao went upstairs after excusing herself from the living room. Their family bond was still tight. Everybody here could see that Yun Yao had pardoned Yun Che and she tried to make everything look normal. The sister genuinely cared about her brother.

"Yun Yao is so nice."

Said Ye Xingchen who had always held Yun Yao in regard. Jiang Shang was miffed. He held Ye's hand and muttered, "Senior, I'm nice too."

"Yes, you're nice. I like you the most."

Ye Xingchen coaxed his baby boy with a smile. It looked just like one of the scenes in a Yaoi comic. Yun Che wasn't much of a fan of a saccharine homosexual relationship, he leaned back on Xing Feng's shoulder and said to him, "Are there spare houses in the community?"

The squad was growing, there weren't enough rooms. Although they could make do for the time being, it wasn't ideal in the long run. What if Zeyu or Haixuan got a girlfriend, they couldn't live in one room by then, could they? Also, the Wolf King needed a place to stay because Heiyu wouldn't allow him to take his place. And unquestionably, Ye Xingcheng would be taming more and more beasts.

Xing Feng didn't answer, instead, he turned his head to look at Gu Mingxuan, the man who should know this better than he did. "We do have quite a lot of spare houses. Chaoyang Community was supposed to be a state-subsidized project. The community was built after the land requisition policy of the government, it was meant to house all the villagers in the three nearby villages, so it is a large community. Dozens of detached houses and several seven-story apartment buildings have been built, the half-built Area 3 is currently on construction under my command. But unfortunately, all the detached houses in the vicinity have residents. If you want a house, how about I ask the family on the other side of your house to move somewhere else?"

Chaoyang Community was almost as large as a section in the base. No vacancy in Area 1 at the moment but Area 2 and 3 were basically empty. No one was living in the seven-story apartment buildings, either, for power-saving purposes. One of the apartment buildings had recently been assigned to house the research team from the Capital City.

"What about the other side of your house?"

Yun Che asked after a quick thought.

"They can move, too. They're our own people, I just need to let them know."

"OK then. Please request them to move. Of course, I'll compensate them. Whatever they want, just say the word."

A big project was brewing in Yun Che's mind. He wouldn't like another renovation several months later. That would be too much trouble.

"What's your plan, Che?"

They thought Yun Che just wanted another house for the new guys, but apparently, it wasn't his sole purpose.

"Clear the houses next to ours and then we'll tear down all the walls. Greenhouses can be built on the spare land between two houses to grow vegetables. Build two sheds for animals in the two corners of the front yard. Leave the rest as is. We need activity space or shades when it's hot or a barbecue area. The entire backyard should be the vegetable garden but we won't be growing anything on the roof. Keep the sunlight room on the roof though, change it into Chenchen's playroom. Gu, please see to the construction, never mind the interior decoration. If you need anything, let me know."

He had a big plan for a big area because he got all the building materials that he would need.

"That can be done. Leave it to me."

Gu Mingxuan was up for the merger so he could be closer to Yun Yao. "How about we connect our houses?"

"No. My people aren't like yours. You have guests from the military every now and then, don't you? Don't do anything to the houses, just the outside."

Yun Che refused without a second thought. Xing Feng would always have business with the military, after all, he and Mo Wenyang were cousins. Yun Che didn't want his people to be involved.

"Right. I'll get it started right now."

Knowing there were already too many people in Yun Che's house, Gu Mingxuan took immediate action. Xing Feng and Yun Che wished to see it done rather sooner than later, too. Ye Xingchen cut in after a quick thought. "Since we have enough room now, how about we put some basic furniture in the living room next door? We can meet with our guests if other superfunction squads come and visit us."

He personally didn't want outsiders to step into this house as well.

"Good idea. When Meng Xu's eyes are recovered, I'll get him some furniture. I'll leave the living room next door to you, then. But the upstairs is our private area, make it homey. I would like the seniors to live there, we young people will keep staying in this house. Once the young and the old are separated, the noises we make won't disturb them anymore."

Yun Che was territorial. Ye Xingchen's suggestion suited his interest.

"OK. I won't be following the guys to quests these days then. I'll also oversee the construction of the animal sheds. Mingxuan has too much stuff to do, he doesn't need to worry about that."

Ye's superfunction attribute was special. He would level up through animal-controlling instead of fights. There weren't many mutant beasts out there and you wouldn't see zombie beast every day. He was the perfect person to help with the renovation at home.

"Thanks. You should think about how to make Jiang Shang happy though. He's going to cry."

Yun Che pouted at Jiang Shang wearing a long face. Ye Xingchen looked back and shook head at him. The kid was too clingy, but in a fight, he was unbelievably formidable. He was probably the second most powerful next to Yun Che in Peak.

"I almost forgot about the mutant wolves in my Space. I'll go to the canteen with Xing Feng. When my sister comes downstairs after her nap, tell her not to cook dinner. Let's eat at the canteen tonight."

As if it just hit him, Yun Che dragged Xing Feng up. They left as soon as he finished speaking. Watching them disappear in the distance, Ye Xingchen turned around and held Jiang Shang's face. "I just won't be following you to quests in the next couple of days, it's not like forever. Why the long face?"

"Want to be with you. Forever."

The straightforward boy Jiang Shang nibbled Ye's lips. He would speak more words than usual to Ye Xingchen. Although it was still a lot less than average, at least he made himself clear.

"How about I ask our captain to allow you to stay at home for a few days?"

Suggested Ye Xingchen. He really hated to see the disappointed look on this cute, pretty face. But Jiang Shang shook his head hard. "No. Kill zombies. Crystal nuclei. Cheng."

Even Jiang Shang felt it didn't sound quite right, he added, "Eat." Ye Xingchen attempted to interpret his words. "Kill zombies to collect crystal nuclei for Cheng to eat. Is that what you mean?"

Very smart of Ye. He could be Jiang Shang's interpreter.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah."

Jiang Shang nodded with joy because Ye got it right. He knew Ye was the best.

"Hehe. Good boy."

He didn't know Jiang Shang would take duty and teamwork so seriously. Ye Xingchen loved him more. He couldn't find a cuter boyfriend.

"Like you. Love you."

Jiang Shang blatantly showed his feelings for Ye. He was very good at saying these words. Ye Xingchen stroked his face with a warm smile. "Yes, I like you too. A lot."

Ye sure did. It was the one and only Jiang Shang.

"Senior!"

Mmmh!

Jiang Shang suddenly pinned Ye down on the couch in excitement and bit his lips. Ye Xingchen tried to push him away but Jiang locked his hands over his head. The next second, Jiang's slippery tongue pried open Ye's teeth, sloshing his mouth. Ye Xingchen had given up fighting back at this point, he allowed Jiang to do whatever he wanted.

Yun Che and Xing Feng went to next door even though he claimed that they were going to the canteen. Now that he had decided to eat dinner at the canteen, he might as well wait for Heiyu to finish catching the fish and games. Going there twice would be a waste of time. He had planned to go there around 4 pm, the canteen would normally open around 6 pm, so he had enough time before that.

"Oh, hi. I've made the arrangements. The move can start when Chaoyang space superfunction possessors come home. The builders are ready, they will be here tomorrow morning. Later today, Yafei can help tear down the walls, the sand and clay can be used to build the sheds for the animals."

Gu Mingxuan just got off the phone before Xing Feng and Yun Che walked into the house. Xing Feng was the big boss in Chaoyang, everybody would respect every decision that he made. The families lived next door to Yun Che's house and his said yes right away, they didn't need to know why. The builders were easy to find. There were loads of average people without superfunction in the base, it wasn't hard to hire a group of qualified handymen. In fact, before the doomsday, one of the many businesses that Chaoyang did was real-estate development. They used to have their own builder team. After the doomsday came, the ones with superfunction were enrolled into squads, the ones with no superfunction had their own chores to do, but they could all come and help. The renovation should be finished rather quickly.
