Changes & Weird Things about Overlord Girls

Gu Mingxuan had told Yun Che and Xing Feng about what was going on in the Southwest Base but didn't go into the details. But judging from the looks on the faces of Chen Hua and Lei Dashan, it must be tricky. It wasn't the military's fault, there were too many people but too few lands. If they could, they would give everybody 10 acres because they could get half of the harvest basically for free.

"Hehe, don't feel bothered. I'll learn more about it with Captain Xing when we're back. If we must, we just clean up the forest together. But it'll get hotter in the following days, let's say we can grow stuff in the lands, the crops will probably die due to the dry weather. Let's put off the farming and focus on supplies collecting. If the food goes bad, they'll be squandered."

After making eye contact with Xing Feng, Yun Che stated his priority with a smile. Although many foods could last long and during the food shortage, many would eat expired food anyway, it'd be better if they could get collected as early as possible. The expiration date could be extended infinitely once the food went into Space.

"It'll get hotter? Shit, we're living in hell!"

It could go up to 38 degrees Celsius. Who could live in 40+ degrees Celsius if it did get hotter?

"Hot weather isn't the worst. My estimation is, this winter will be tougher."

The big snow and earthquakes in June were just a starter. There would be no more June snow in the future but the weather would change frequently and drastically in the following-up days, there would be more earthquakes and other natural disasters. And in southwest area, earthquakes had been common before the doomsday. There would only be more and more.

Chen Hua and Lei Dashan went speechless but this was a good heads-up from Yun Che. They would collect some air-cons and diesel during quests, otherwise, the winter could be rigorous.

"Damn, bad luck all the time. Captain Xing, Captain Yun, what's the future of mankind in your opinion?"

Chen Hua sighed heavily after a long silence. Zombies, zombie beasts, mutant beasts, mutant plants, natural disasters, harsh weather, everything was against mankind. How were humans supposed to get enough living space in this harsh environment? Zombies might crush humans before humans could wipe them out.

It was a heavy topic. Xing Feng and Yun Che made eye contact and their fingers were interlocked under the table. "We mustn't yield no matter what. Don't underestimate mankind, the harsher the environment is, the more human potentials will be aroused. Someday, we'll conquer everything and get back to the top of the food chain."

Xing Feng's resolute speech inspired and cheered up everybody. Yun Che added with a smile, "Man can conquer nature, it seems like a slogan but it comforts us and gives us the strength to move forward. Yes, the zombies and all the other mutant creatures are tough, we just need to be tougher than them. It's not as hard as you think it would be. But if we give up mentally, we'll no doubt lose the battle physically."

"Correct. I won't give up. I just got sentimental for a moment."

Even Captain Yun became sentimental, Chen Hua was affected. Lei Dashan nodded, too. "No, we won't give up. Even it's not for us, we must hold fast for our wives and kids. It's OK if we don't have a future, but our kids must have one."

"Hehe, Captain Lei is a good man."

Yun Che felt someone pinch him right after he said it. He turned his head and met Xing Feng's deep eyes. Yun Che then straight-up added, "Our Captain Xing is also a good man."

That was more like it.

Captain Xing gave him an approving look after Yun Che fawned on him. As they gave each other meaningful looks, even Chen Hua and Lei Dashan, the two married dudes, felt like setting them on fire, much less the single guys.

"Ahem, I'm sure if you have heard this but there have been a lot of superfunction possessors swarming into the base. Many have registered new squads at Superfunction Association, some existing squads have recruited new members. Nothing really changed in the top-10 chart but the change is huge blew top-10. And Overlord Girls seem to have a problem with the military, but Major General Mo can't find out what."

Chen Hua cleared his throat to change the subject. This was overwhelming, was this sweet couple intentionally came to torture them?

"Even the Southwest Base barely survived the snow, those small bases in the southwest area must have had a rough time, so it's normal that many people come to seek shelter here. But my opinion is that we don't need random new recruits, we need reliable, decent people. It doesn't matter if a squad is the strongest, the important thing is, how long can it last? You never know what kinds of people you get if you enroll new recruits randomly. A black sheep in a flock can screw up everything. We'd better be cautious."

No one was more suitable than Yun Che to make the statement. His squad, Peak, itself was the best proof. They had the least amount of members among all squads, they got less than 10 regular quest-doers, but their ranking was still high. Peak even exceeded Joy by a lot, others were far behind them. They left the base for 20 days, but their points were still a lot higher than others.

"Joy doesn't need more people and I don't care if we drop out of top-3."

Joy never wanted any more new recruits. All Joy members were Chen Hua's relatives or friends or someone went through life-and-death situations with him. It might sound selfish but Chen Hua trusted no strangers in the doomsday.

"We Loser don't need random new recruits, either. Like you said, the number doesn't matter, personalities and characters matter the most."

Lei Dashan seemed a crude guy, he was, in fact, quite circumspective. He had a straightforward personality and such personality of his affected all Loser members. People like them were absolutely earnest and upfront. If they did recruit one or two assholes and those assholes saw their earnestness as idiocy, that would be disgusting. So Lei Dashan wouldn't send any offers unless he was 100% sure of the new guy.

"Hehe. You mentioned that Overlord Girls fell out with the military? What happened?"

Yun Che changed the subject as he knew that they were smart people.

"Yeah. We got back to doing quests after the snow melted, right? Overlord Girls suddenly stopped leading other squads and increased their members to more than 30 people and not all of their new recruits were women. Later, we learned that they had rented a building as a legitimate superfunction squad and they lived rather close to us. Other than the 30-ish superfunction possessors, the building is also housing many civilians. The military can't house those people for free, right? So we assume that Overlord Girls have fallen out with the military for some reason. Major General Mo said he'd look into it but there's no updates so far."

Chen Hua was confused when it came to this matter. He had someone ask Feng Xinlan in a joking tone but they ended up with a bunch of useless information.

"Is that so?"

Yun Che rubbed his chin and looked at his man, Xing Feng. Their eyes were full of doubts. Overlord Girls were all soldiers and soldiers wouldn't abandon their comrades easily unless the military had done something that really let them down. What Overlord Girls had done gained nothing in return but compared to the two squads under Wei Army, they had an okay reputation at the Superfunction Association. Whether it was genuine or not, many superfunction possessors were willing to work with Overlord Girls. Wang Army shouldn't be stupid enough to dump them.

"It needs a proper investigation. I'll ask Wenyang about it some other day."

Xing Feng used to be a soldier who grew up in the army, he knew what soldiers were like better than anyone else did. His gut feeling told him that this thing was more complicated than it seemed to be. The three armies were still neck and neck at the moment in the Southwest Base, Peak and Chaoyang had better not miss any details.

"Yeah. How about the two squads under Wei Army?"

Yun Che turned to Chen Hua after a nod. They both shook their heads to express that there was no change. Many had reached level 4 now. After the snow melted, most squads ventured into Wanan City. Some even wished to go downtown across the river because that was the central downtown in Lingjiang City. However, no squad had actually done it even though they wished to do so.

"All right, we'll go back and learn about the details. Let's talk about the rest later."

Yun Che stood up with Chenchen in his arms as he spoke. So did Xing Feng and the others. They came here to deliver the seafood, so they had enough business talk today.

"Sure, we won't keep you here any longer. Oh, Captain Yun, apparently, the military and the government have this major discovery, I don't know what it is but you'd better ask Major General Mo about it."

Chen Hua suddenly brought this up when he walked them out. As one of the top-3 squads, he had informants across the base, so 80% of the hearsay was true.

"Hehe, I would be surprised if nothing happened. Alright, you guys go home. You eat the seafood while it's fresh. Enjoy your dinner."

Yun Che didn't seem to take what Chen Hua said too seriously. He joked and got into the mini-coach.

"Thank you for bringing the seafood all the way to us."

Chen Hua and Lei Dashan couldn't stop their saliva from drooling when they thought of the seafood. The southweast was an inland area, people here couldn't get much seafood before the doomsday, let alone now. Thanks to Yun Che, they got to eat so much fresh seafood, otherwise, they wouldn't get any for the rest of their lives.

"We're off. See you around!"

Zhou Zeyu put his hand out of the window and waved their friends goodbye. The mini-coach started moving. After being away home for 20 days, all of them were eager to go home. The fancy world out there could never beat their sweet home.

"They must have got a lot of stuff during this trip, I think."

Chen Hua muttered as he watched the mini-coach fade into the distance. Lei Dashan turned to him. "It would be strange if they didn't get anything. You know, I wonder if normal people can eat the seafood. Will there be side effects like they had after eating the meat of the mutant beasts?"

"Uh, Captain Yun…"

Lei Dashan's question reminded Chen Hua but the mini-coach was long gone. They had no choice but to send someone to Chaoyang to get an answer. After the mutant beast incident, they were sure of one thing: You don't the stuff from Yun Che carelessly.
