Chapter 7 - Trickery

"Uuuhhh... I wanted to eat fried chicken but I also wanted to eat the ones that I've seen in the commercials... Uuuuuuuhhh..."

Lex said all of his food cravings with drool over his lips as his brain was having a hard time thinking about choosing which food to eat.

"Grandpa, My little sisters, What about you guys?" Ling glanced at the side and inquired.

Just when the three heard Ling, all three of them shook their head at the same time and stared at him intently, inquisitive about Ling's words the truth or not.

"That's the truth! Even though my superpower was not the kind of thing that could kill those beasts, I just have to be grateful for the blessing I have. After all, it's rare to be awakened at this point,"

As if he read their minds like a book, Ling smiled and briefly explained.

'I'm sorry that I had to trick you guys, especially you Grandpa. I just don't want to be burdened by a greater sense of responsibility for saving humans or defending the country from the Nagas and other savage beasts. I just wanted to be a low-profile person, only caring for you guys and exploring this unstable world since I have this system,'

As a person who lived alone in his past life, Ling's feelings about this protagonist-like defending the world thingy was still vague for him. All of the books he read had those protagonists who have commitments and reasons why they do such dangerous things. In reality, Ling didn't have any kind of plot armor that protagonists had in their storylines.

Regardless, Ling was still human and had that compassion, sympathy, benevolence just like any kind of human who will save innocent people from getting killed and eaten by such dangerous beasts of the world. As such, Ling also knew a little bit of humanity's darkest side. Malice, jealousy, arrogance, cunning, and being selfish. These are the human qualities that embrace humanity in the past and recent times.

For this exact reason, Ling found it tough to trust in these times. Furthermore, some geniuses and powerful figures around the globe had those thoughts of saving the world by getting stronger for the sake of humanity and themselves.

Even though these geniuses would be a great helping hand in this conquest of saving and defending, Ling doesn't want to meddle with the conceitedness and hero complexity of these geniuses.

"Uuuuhhhh... I want delicious fried chicken!"

At this moment, Lex broke the silence inside the room and ultimately decided to go fried chicken with decisiveness in his shining eyes, staring at his big brother.

"Brother, I would like to have fried chicken just like Lex."

"As for me, I would like to eat marinated pork Brother."

"My teeth are getting numb these few days, I do want the soft and warm porridge of my childhood."

After listening to Ling's "honest" explanation, all three of them shook their heads and didn't push the topic as Lina, Luna, and Grandpa answered Ling's query one by one.

'Grandpa... You are testing me, right?' Ling inwardly thought.

"Let's sit first before I can start okay?"

Ling sat on his dining chair ahead of them and asked them to sit down, preparing them for the food to come.

'This ridiculous thought of mine must work or else... I'm gonna get embarrassed in front of my family.'

Although he was calm on the surface, Ling's brain raced faster with both the nervousness and curiosity flooding his mind at the moment.

Ling breathe deeply and closed his eyes, semi-consciously submerging again in his system space where the land of majestic mountains and sea of dense clouds welcomed Ling's honey eyes.

[Inventory]

—[Food] x 100

—[Spirit Stone] x 100

As soon as he got into the place, Ling wasted no time and summoned the [Inventory] interface to discover that his [Food] resource count was in the maximum limit now.

Ling didn't have the time to give a fuck about the numbers and chose the [Food] five times.

[Food] x 5

[Materialize?]

'Two fried chickens... Marinated Pork... I don't know how to materialize soft porridge... Ah, soft and warm Porridge... For me? Hmmm... Stewed Pork!... Again! Two fried chickens, marinated pork, soft porridge, and stewed pork! Here goes nothing!'

Ling's mind and expression began to be serious, deeply visualizing all of the food they ordered with such pure concentration.

In reality.

"Grandpa, can Brother Ling truly do it?"

Noticing the serious expression on his brother's face, Lex asked his grandpa with both anxiety and eagerness in his eyes.

Lina and Luna also had the same expression as Lex, staring at their Grandpa, waiting to answer Lex's question.

"My grandchildren, I truly don't know. As for your brother, don't worry about him. Although he is stubborn as hell, once he put his mind to something, he can certainly do it."

Grandpa comforted and patted their heads, reassuring them. Even so, he couldn't help to be worried about his grandchild as Grandpa closed his eyes, wishing that nothing bad will happen to Ling.

"Whoah! What... What is that?!"

In a childish outburst of exclamation, Grandpa instantly opened up his eyes, glancing in Lex's direction. Lex was shocked to find out that there are some incomplete things, materializing at the top of the table.

"This... This is so cool!"

"Wow! This is some sort of magic trick"

Lina, Luna, and Grandpa shifted their attention to the table and were also surprised, impressed by how things turned out to be.

The food materializing bits by bits at the table looked so bizarre and magical at the same time. The swirls of imaginary spiritual energy residing in the room were maintaining the process ongoing and printing the food like a real 3d food printer.

One by one, the foods emerged in front of the table, looking hot and delicious as the smokes and aroma of the foods swept away to their noses, making their stomachs rumbling and salivas swallowed down to their throats.

"HAHAHAHA, It works! Yes! It works!"

In the system space, Ling semi-conscious state sensed the amazed and stunned looks on their faces as he was elated that the outrageous idea of his worked completely fine.

'Thank you, my system. If you didn't come to my side, I would become like my predecessor, looking for shelter in this deserted cruel land'

Ling thanked his system, grateful for the bountiful food and more advantageous resources to come as he goes back to reality with a smile on his face.

"Well... Shall we eat now?"

Ling opened his eyes and smiled mysteriously, no one knew what he was thinking right now.

Yoooo!!! I fucking finished this chapter phew! Luckily, my burnt-out mind completed this chapter, or else I'm gonna be a lazy ass these days. I will write more since I have the adrenaline. I will use it to its limit hehehehe.

Now, let's be back to the story. I know that the characters are bland and the setting looks odd, heck! Even the dialogues in this novel looked so strange and stupid as many people would think right now. But, I am going to keep up with my work now.

This is hell and I want all of the readers to read this shit until the end. The looks, settings, characteristics of characters, and dialogue looked stupid but who knows, maybe I can improve so hard.
