Chapter 27: Open The Gates

A heavy sigh escaped from Rowan’s lips before she could manage restraint. Tarik tilted his head to the side and gave Rowan a warning look. Lea appeared from Rowan’s chambers and gently placed a delicate, gold tiara on the queen’s head.

“There, I’m ready!” Rowan declared as she began to enthusiastically march down the stairs. She had only gone a few steps before she stepped on her gown and stumbled. Tarik’s strong grip found her arm and set her straight again. She gave him a thankful glance and reached to open the throne room door.

Suddenly, Rowan felt herself spun around. General Tarik fixed her tiara, straightened a stray hair, raised an eyebrow, then spun her back around and gave her a push.

“Queen Rowan,” King Elinias greeted her. “I appreciate you holding court so early.”

“I thank you for coming,” Rowan said in Elven. “This situation needs to be dealt with.”
