“To be honest,” Jake said, “your mother was kind of worried about you.” Noel could tell by his expression he regretted what he did, but still… He called her mother! “I’m sorry. I know I shouldn’t have, but, Noel,” he sighed, “I was mad, hurt, and confused.” He gave her a weak shrug. “Maybe I kind of did it out of spite. I’m sorry. I’ll make it up to you.”
