Chapter 13: Lily

Her daughter didn’t arrive at seven-thirty, as Lily had expected. Instead, she was there at seven-fifteen, bright, chipper, and annoying in her enthusiasm to get the trip started. Lily would have strangled her, but she had only had one cup of coffee so far. Since Cassie had decided to rush the morning, Lily switched her outfit choices, choosing instead, a pair of cream-colored shorts with brown sandals and a lavender T-shirt as opposed to spending time on an outfit that might look a little more like she cared what she was wearing. It didn’t matter what she dressed up like until later that evening anyway. She’d have plenty of time to get all gussied up to make the perfect first impression.

“What time did you go to bed?” Cassie asked as she loaded her mother’s luggage into the trunk of her Civic. She closed the trunk, brushing her dark bangs out of her eyes as she walked around to the driver’s door.
