Chapter 82: Losing Faith

The ride to the office seemed to take forever with Sunday afternoon traffic being more congested than she could remember. Edwin said he’d be there until five-thirty, and it was only ten till five. Plenty of time to catch him. She sent him a text telling him she was on her way if the plans hadn’t changed. He replied simply, Come. No playfulness. No flirtatious innuendo. Just Come.

Suddenly, Faith’s excitement turned to a nervous anxiety. Had something gone wrong this weekend? What kind of mood was he in? He gave her instructions earlier and then just dropped out of sight. Was this all part of his stoic, stern demeanor as the one controlling her, his plaything?

She parked her Toyota around back next to Edwin’s truck, took a deep breath, and opened her door.
