Chapter 11: Too Quiet

Shasta awoke on the dock about an hour after she’d gotten out of the water. Retrieving her clothes, she hiked back up to the cabin. While a swim would do in lieu of a shower for now, her hair needed immediate attention. Gathering her shampoo and conditioner, she hunched over the kitchen sink, having worked out a system of pumping enough water to wet her hair a little at a time, adding shampoo, rinsing, conditioning and rinsing again, until her hair was clean.
