Chapter 55: Night Ops

“Why do you want to go back to the lodge after dark?” Rusty shook the bottle of steak sauce before pouring some onto his plate.

“Because,” hissed Rhys, “they’ll be there. Obviously, they go out during the day, but they hole up there at night.”

Rusty sighed. Not for the first time, he wished he’d never mentioned Shasta Pyke to his partner. “I want to go on the record as saying I think it’s a bad idea to trespass over there again.”

“You’re bloody useless, d’ya know that?” Rhys snorted derisively. “Fine. I’ll go there myself. But I won’t split the payday with you.”

“I’ll go, I’ll go, geez! Who said I wouldn’t go? I’m just saying, I think it’s a bad idea.”

“That’s two reds,” Grant giggled happily as he moved his game piece around the board. “I’m going to win.”

“Not if you get sent back to the beginning,” Emma tempered him.

“Well, Uncle Blake’s going to lose,” Grant replied, laughing again.
