Chapter 30

A young man can be seen walking the busy street. Although there are many people there, the young man effortlessly walked past all of them without bumping. He continued to walk and walk until he arrived in front of a tall building. He went in without hesitation and climbed the building stairs by stairs. When he reached the roof, the young man took off his shoes and put away his bag.

He slowly stepped until he's at the tip of the skyscraper. He spread his arm out wide, feeling the wind touching his skin. The young man turned around, he saw a person watching him from the roof door. The young man smiled at the person before surrendering himself to fate. Jumping backwards, the young man felt exhilarated, thinking that he was finally going to be free from this world.

But what he was looking for did not happen. By some miraculous setting, the wind suddenly blew harder, carrying the young man to a nearby building, crashing through the window. The young man's body was full of injuries, and he smiled regretfully. He wobbly got up, walking towards a nearby chair and sat weakly. The young man got in trouble with the building owner and the local police for reckless behaviour.

A few years later, the young man glanced up towards the sky. He suddenly got an urged to fly, so he rented a hot air balloon. He looked at the vast earth below; craziness gleamed in his eyes. The young man ditched the instructor, jumping without fear from the hot air balloon. He could see the instructor face as he slowly let himself fall to the mercy of gravity.

The young man felt the rush of adrenaline and the wind going through his body. He then began imitating the poses he saw on tv, the one that paragliders used to do before they pulled out their parachute. He tried the angel pose, he tried backflipping in the air, he tried spinning around in the air and at the end, he positioned his body so that he can look directly at the earth.

Feeling the ground closing on him, he closed his eyes, a smile forming on his lips. The young man was prepared for his eventual death and his freedom from this damned wicked world; alas, heaven does not allow him to die. Again, a wind blocked his way. It blew the young man away from the hard rock earth below and into a relatively large lake nearby. With a huge splash, the young man crashed into the lake, somewhat breaking his fall.

The young man smiled in annoyance, but he didn't try to swim into the surface. He thought, maybe dying by drowning isn't half that bad. Before he completely drowned, however, he was saved. Again, he got into trouble with the police for reckless behaviour. While the young man first attempt managed to get some attention on social media, his second attempt blew up. Soon, people began to call him the 'Daredevil'.

A few years later, the young man that just turned 22 was walking on an open road. He glanced at the sky once more as light flashed through his eyes, and once again, he tried to kill himself. He's not going to do any extravagant things this time, as every time he does so, heaven would do another thing that's extravagant to save him from death.

He browsed through the internet and found that the quickest and painless way to die is due to poisoning. He bought his own ingredients and made his own poison. Just as he was about to drink the poison, a rat jumped and stole the poison away with its mouth.

Then, as if by cue, a fire started inside his house, burning everything inside. Just like at the lake, the young man resigned himself to his fate. And just to ensure that he would die, he barricaded himself inside his bedroom. Fortunately or unfortunately for the young man, the fire suddenly goes out after burning everything inside his house. Frustrated, the young man screamed at the sky, at the heavens that would not allow him to die.

After failing to die for the third time, the young man kept trying, but each time he failed. Some stupid things always happened to him, foiling his plan every time. After about a hundred or so tries, he finally breaks down and cries.

"Fine, if that's what you want, I'm going to live my life to my fullest!" the young man swore to himself. From then on, the Daredevil changed his way of living. He finished his studies and got into a prestigious company. The young man, who once wanted to die because he did not have everything, now has everything. He thinks back at his young self that tried looking for ways to die was foolish. So what if I don't have anything? I can just earn it by myself.

Just as he finally felt alive in the world, the company laid him and a few of his colleagues off with little to no reason. The world that the young man built crumbled again, crushing him from inside. To expressed his displeasure, he and his colleagues drank their life off that night. He blabbers out his experience in life while drunk, such as telling his story when he was young and how the young man lost everything when he's just 6 years old.

He complained to the world, asking why. Why, after all this time, after he finally wants to live, the world took everything away from him again. The young man raised his cup and drank. Picking a bottle of gin, he poured it into the cup then drank. He continued to drink until his body gave up. The young man's eyes felt heavy. Slowly but surely, his eyes closed shut, and darkness greeted him.

"You have experienced the up and down in life. You opposed fate before finally succumbing to it. I hope in your next life, you continue to live your life and never giving up on yourself."

A voice sounded inside the young man's head before he finally lost his consciousness.

I jolted awake, with sweat pouring all over me. I rubbed my forehead, "What a nightmare", I murmured to myself. I wiped the sweat at my forehead, massaging it. I tried to remember what happens to me. Last I can remember, I was fighting the golem with the Dragon Force Technique but still got owned by it. Tch, if I had known that, I wouldn't really use the Dragon Force technique and picked something else. What's done is done, I guess. Although, I don't like what I dream of just now.

My past life, my memories of what I was before. I didn't like it. It reminded me of how weak I am. Losing my parents at a young age, I resent everything, avoiding everything I could. When I finally couldn't take it, I wanted to end it all. Then, when the world stopped me from doing something stupid, I resolved myself to live. I began changing from then on. I fight for myself, starting by learning to love myself.

Thinking back on it, I was really an idiot. There's plenty of people in the world with a much worse background than me. A lot of them went on and did great things while I mop around feeling sorry for myself. After I finish learning about myself, I strive to improve. I finished college, found a decent job and even dated here and there. Just as it finally goes right for me, life ended it all. I still have so many regrets back then. Now though, a new world, a new family, and new friends. I wanted to do right by them.

Sighing, I glanced beside me, founding Davida, Diane and Duncan lying on the ground. Seeing that they're still breathing, albeit with heavy injuries on their body gave me relief. Then I looked up. I saw that we're still inside the large hall from before. 'That golem was too powerful', I thought. Not wanting to lay on the ground for much longer, I tried to stand up. My legs wobbled, forcing me to fell back to the floor. 'The side-effect from the Dragon Force technique, huh….' I sighed in exasperation.

Laying on the ground, powerless and cannot do anything, it's been a while since I felt this feeling. Then, I heard something buzzed beside me. My black sword, the one that I got as a reward for beating myself, hummed beside my ear. I sensed it buzzed a little bit mellow dramatic from the usual. "You're trying to comfort me, huh, buddy?" I looked at it with sincerity. Seemingly understands me, it hummed joyfully before it flew towards my hand.

Surprised flashed in my eyes, "You can do that, buddy?" I asked the black sword that's now in my right hand. It answered me by vibrating, yet somehow I managed to understand what it's trying to say. Tears streamed from my eyes, "I'm still weak!" I said to myself, "Just like my previous life, in this life, I'm still weak!" I cried out of frustration. I glanced at Davida and the others before resolved appears inside me. Using the black sword, I propped myself up. It vibrated inside my hand, concernedly expressing its feeling to me. "Yeah, we need to get stronger. A lot stronger!"
