A/N: Long time. My test is here.
"Don't get cocky just because you defeated little Erza! You are nothing. The title of the strongest deserve only to me. I am the strongest!" The spiky haired blondie with a lightning bolt shaped scar on his right eye and magic headphones on his ears spoke with an arrogant tone.
"LAXUS!" Erza glared at the dude.
"Jealous of my "Strongest man in Fairy Tail" title, eh!" Richter who was still doing his T-pose spoke with an even greater arrogant tone, "You want it? You gonna have to take it. From me."
"How nonsense! It doesn't even belong to you"
"Oh yes! It does."
"It doesn't!!!"
"Hmph! Words of a lil prick. Just jealous of magnificient me."
"Dare say it again, You Bastard!" Laxus roared as lightning started crackling around him. He was irritated at Richter's flippant attitude. 'This bastard doesn't know who he is messing with.'
Richter couldn't stop himself from grinning.
'Ah! It's so much fun.'
"Little pussy~"
"Laxus! Stop!" Makarov tried to stop Laxus.
It was too late. No one can match the speed of lightning. Laxus flashed before Richter and punched him in the face with his lightning fist. It landed right on his cheek and the lightning surged right on Richter's face.
"Laxus! Stop it!" Erza tried to stop him but stopped in her track.
The punch managed to make Richter's face face sideways a bit and that's all it did. Instead it was Laxus fist, that was still on the Richter's cheek getting pushed back. Richter ate that lightning fist without dodging or blocking and resisted it with his bare face and faced Laxus eye to eye.
"That's some nice punch you got, thunder boi!"
Richter's half-hearted and flippant attitude made Laxus irritated but he had good head on his shoulders. That's why he immediately jumped back. Yes, he is arrogant but he isn't stupid. That single attack had made a clear difference. The guy infront of him is a monster. He had underestimated the guy for his lack of magic aura. He is a master. It's another case for all out battle but a brawl, Laxus knew he would lose. 'Not yet.'
"We will fight again next time. At that time, it will be clear who is the strongest."
"Fine by me. Till then I will hold the title of 'The Strongest Man'."
"Tch! Whatever." Saying that, Laxus disappeared god knows where.
Richter remembering something & shouted, "Hey! Come back! You got to eat my punch too."
"That Laxus backed off? That Laxus! Impossible!" Gray cried out in shock. Not only him, everyone in the guild was shocked. The guy is the real deal. Not only did he defeat Erza, he also made Laxus back off.
.......................
Richter's mood was sour. That thunder prick punched him and he didn't get to punch back. "Just you wait, you fricking blondie bastard!!!" He cursed forgetting that he himself was a blondie. But that said, he remembered his talk with guildmaster.
*Flashback starts*
Makarov: "Do you want to move up the rank?"
Richter: "I can?"
Makarov: "Yes, you are very much qualified. Although the standard procedure is by taking a promotion trial that's held every year. I can make an exception for you."
Richter: "Hmmm.....I will do the standard test. I feel some interesting things will happen."
Makarov: "That's fine too."
*Flashback ends*
"Promotion trial. If I remember it, wasn't there some villains and something happened and time skipped. What happened? Ah right! A black dragon sunk the island. What was it's name? Apple? Agotitato? Acnelia? It was something with A. Anyway, I have to get stronger. Although I am strong, it's nothing against that dragon. I have to study too. Let's gather knowledge first."
As an adventurer, he needs to have good knowledge about the geography and topography. Buying some books, he returned to his room. Four years since he had touched a book, he was worried if he could even concentrate himself in studies. Reading and writiing were no problem due to translation blessing but the understanding of the subject was different matter. Even then he continued, trying to make sense of whatever he had studied.
Time passed, some hours later, he was frustrated. It was the first time he had realised what a nerd he is. Nitpicking every single thing. It was like his mind needed to have the understanding of every single term in the topic he studied. If he tried to get only the general understanding of the topic, it felt like something crawling in his heart, that itch he couldn't itch, annoying him to no ends. He realised he needed a teacher. But where should he find one?
"I should ask Mira about it."
"About what?"
"WOAH!!" Richter was startled from his chair. Turning back, he saw Mirajane sitting on his bed. He rubbed his eyes aaaaaaaaand she was still there.
"Wha-!Ho-!Why?"
"I came to call you for dinner but you were so deeply concentrating, I couldn't disturb you. What are you reading?"
Showing the books he said, "Just the general stuff about lands and climate. The last quest I had been to, I realised I needed some general knowledge but it's kind of frustrating for ignorant person like me."
Wearing the glasses she took out from who knows where, she gave off the Sensei vibe. She then came close to Richter, gave a wink and with a charming smile said, "Let this sensei teach you then."
For a moment, he got lost in that smile. Shaking his head, he quickly nodded like a little child.
"Then let's go eat the dinner right now. We will start after the dinner."
"Alright."
.....................
Next day,
In the guild, Mirajane was panicking. The S-class quest paper was missing from the second floor.
"MASTER! Master! The quest paper, The quest paper of the second floor has vanished!!!"
"NANII!!?? That idiot!!!" Makarov was distressed. That brat was always doing some troublesome things. The guild was in uproar.
Richter jolted awake. He had dark circle under his eyes. Looks like last night got intense. Everyone was getting noisy. Not the regular noisy but shocked noisy. Curious, what happened, he asked the blue haired girl infront him.
"Hey! What happened? I dozed off for a second."
"Natsu took the quest from the second floor."
"So?"
She looked at him as if he is some kind of idiot, then remembered something, "Ah right! You are a new member. You see, the quest on the second floor are all S-class quest. Only the S-ranked mages can take it. Anyone else who takes it, is violating the guild rules. Moreover, the quest themselves are very dangerous. And Natsu took the S-class quest."
Richter surging with all the justice inside him, stood and slammed the table with his hands. Although the table didn't break, the books in the table jumped from that slam.
He spoke with worries in his voice and justice in his heart, "HOW HORRIBLE!!! Let's go bring him back fast before anything happens. We must save him."
He was ready to storm off the guild to save Natsu.
"No."
That single word was The Statement.
Richter's shoulders drooped like a sad child who had lost his pokemon cards. He went back to the table.
"Ahem!" Makarov them told Laxus, "Go bring him back. You are the only one that can do it right now."
"Every mage should be responsible for their own life." Laxus refused him.
"Laxus!!" Makarov shouted.
"Stoping shouting old geezer! You will make me deaf. Why don-" He turned his head towards Richter and the rest of the words got stuck in his throat. 'Is he crying?'
"Master, I can't take those words silently." Gray stood up taking offense to what the guildmaster said. "He is not the only one here that bring Natsu back. I will go bring Natsu back."
"You heard him gramps."
Makarov sighed. This unruly grandson.
"Go, bring him back Gray."
Gray was about to move out, when the MAN filled with the aura of righteousness and heart of justice came forward to him.
"Let me be your backup, Gray. Now, come on let's go."
"Huh? I don't need any backup."
"Now! Now! We are friends aren't we? Let us leave before it's too late."
"Whatever man"
As both were leaving through the guild door. A hand grabbed Richter's shoulder from the back.
"Where are you going, my dear student~?"
His back felt cold and sweats started pouring out of his forehead. He felt the gaze. The gaze that brought fear and despair. The morning was bright yet the moment felt so dark. He didn't dare turn back to look at it. That voice, so alluring yet so nightmarish.
Even before the reaction of fight or flight could kick in, Richter was pressed to the ground. With the despair in his eyes and his voice, he could only ask for his buddy's help, "Gray! Help... me!"
Gray was in dilemma but there was nothing he could do. With the guilt on his eyes, he could only look sideways. He was powerless.
"Sorry"
"GRAAAY!!!"
He could only apologise and watch the man shout. The man was dragged slowly inside the guild as the guild door closed silently.
The ice mage felt cold. His body shivered as he realised that there was such a thing in this world that could make an ice mage such as him feel cold.
"I saw nothing, I heard nothing and I know nothing."
