What a dud

I opened up the door leading into my shared dorm room. The air smelled of top ramen and musty socks from my roomates, which weren't there at all. The little oxygen that was in the building thankfully suppressed some of the stench, but wasn't enough to get all of it.

I threw my backpack onto the bed lazily while plopping down in my chair at the same time. I took the watch out of my pocket from earlier and started to examine it more. I obviously noticed the platinum-silver color when I fell on top of it. Then, an idea came to mind.

My body started to be filled with excitement from the thought that it was a Chasm watch. I instantly started to tap and do turning motions, but the screen was blank, only showing the time in digital numbers and not reacting at all to what I was doing. After some time, I finally gave up on it and went to the kitchen, which was destroyed by crazy partying, the floors stained with wine. They weren't even allowed to drink wine, since we were only 15 and 16 year olds, but I didn't bother to snitch because then I would be the one taking the blame for everyone.

As I was grabbing a bowl for some cereal, I turned on the tv that sat across from the counter. The first thing that came on tv wasn't a surprise. More terrorists had destroyed District Nima in L.A., nearly 100 miles from where I was. The new things about chasm watches, findings on new planets and species, other unimportant things that filled the words on screen. These were the basic things that always happened. Nothing good or juicy actually ever happened. Heck, at least the news is more entertaining than what I do: eat cereal for dinner, pick up after my roomates who do absolutely shit and make messes wherever they go, watch the news, sleep, go to school, repeat.

It was starting to get late, so I finally decided to turn off the tv and head to bed. But the same thought just kept filling my mind. "Why would someone just leave their watch on the sidewalk?" I kept thinking. "Even if they dropped it, they still would've heard the clank sound it would make after leaving their pocket."

After time and time again, the same thought just kept recurring to me. I was thankful that I could think, but still wasn't able to go to sleep. My roomates weren't anywhere for me to know.

Eventually, I had enough. I jumped out of bed and grabbed the watch.

"Alright, something is different about you. Nobody would wear a normal watch nowadays, so what is up with you!?!" I demanded loudly. The watch didn't respond.

"Whatever. You better not mess with my sleeping schedule, because I don't want to be late again for first period. Everyday," I said out loud, now feeling silly that I was talking to a watch. "I just wish that time wouldn't hate me for once."

"Access granted. You now received the special reward 'Finders Keepers'," a voice suddenly filled the room. I dropped the watch, which now started to glow. Upon saying this, a holographic screen appeared out of nowhere. "Do other chasm watch users see something like this too? I don't think I've ever heard anything about screens appearing out of nowhere though" I thought. "Whatever dude, just get the hell outta here, whatever is happening."

The watch started to shine more luminously by the second. I tried to make a run for the door, but it was too late. A blinding flash of light pierced the room. Everything went dark with a loud boom.
