General Annoyance

"My name is Mitsuna, I heard you took a request about an Obsidian Obelisk?"

The girl named Mitsuna asked after addressing the whole party.

"We did indeed. Some while ago even. Are you perhaps the one who placed the request, young lady?"

Tameran asked after confirming her statement, a confident smile sat on his face as his posture sitting down was wide and open.

"Tameran. Don't just go telling random people what assignments we're doing. We don't know who she is."

Brandy spoke immediately after Tameran, not letting Mitsuna answer the man's question.

"Your leader here is right. Even though I knew and only asked for confirmation, you shouldn't go around answering questions that might get your group in trouble."

Mitsuna said as she looked at Tameran who could barely hold eye contact with her. Mitsuna then turned to Brandy, the leader of the group.

"I am not the one who posted the assignment."

Mitsuna specified.

"I am someone who stumbled onto the Obelisk mentioned in that assignment and just so happened to gather the materials needed for it."

Brandy leaned in closer as Tameran shut his trap and both Oberon and Mizly turned to look straight at Mitsuna.

"Where did you find it?"

Brandy asked, more so in a request of genuine curiosity rather than commandingly.

"Deep in the desert Northwest of here. Though I gathered everything that I saw there already. I have some of the materials here if you want proof."

Mitsuna's first statement got the hopes and excitement of the party up, the second statement kicked them back to reality and the third statement got their interest and curiosity.

Brandy leaned back in her chair.

"Some proof would be nice..."

Mitsuna reached behind her back and pulled out two small crystals, one pink and the other white.

Placing them on the table, she let the party touch and examine them on their own.

"This does indeed fit the description of the mineral."

Oberon commented as he stared closely at the white crystal that Tameran was holding between his fingers.

Brandy, who was examining the pink crystal, handed it over to Mizly so she could look at it herself as well before asking a question.

"So what do you want from us with this? Rub it in our faces that you found the needed material first? I remember seeing someone with a similar hair colour back when we picked the assignment now that I think about it."

Mitsuna's face froze completely for a second.

"Pfft."

She barely concealed a light chuckle.

"No, no. Though I had my eyes on that request or assignment or whatever you'd like to call it, you picked that out first fairly."

Mitsuna said with a light smile as she waved off the accusation.

"I'm here to see if we can figure something out and split the needed rewards. I have enough of the crystals for some good coin but can't complete the request since I didn't take it. You did. Yet I have the stuff you need."

Mitsuna said as she looked at Brandy, who sat there a little surprised by Mitsuna's reaction to her accusation.

"Sorry about the accusation."

Brandy apologized while crossing her arms.

"If we do this, how much will the split-"

Before Brandy could finish her question, Tameran spoke up as confident as ever.

"Yes, please do forgive our Brandy here miss, Mitsuna was it? A beautiful name. You may call me Tameran. My name means 'Quake in the Stable Sea'."

"Thank you, and it's a pleasure."

Mitsuna replied with a polite smile as she turned back to the others, whom Tameran immediately introduced without anyone asking him to do so.

"The straight lace you've been conversing with is named Brandy, as I mentioned. Her parents were alcoholics. Next to you on that side is Oberon, he is quiet but a good jokester and dislikes using firearms. On the other side of the table is Mizly who is silent, brutally honest and obsessed with explosions."

"Pleasure to meet you all."

Mitsuna spoke as she saw Brandy holding her head while her brow twitched occasionally and the two slime people just stared at Tameran in both impressed shock and annoyance.

"As I said before, my name is Mitsuna, mostly just a researcher right now I guess."

"Oh? What do you research?"

Tameran asked immediately.

"Stuff. So, Brandy, daughter of alcoholics. You were mentioning the split I'm looking for, right?"

"Right. Yes. Thanks."

Brandy said with a sigh of relief.

"Well, I'd like a 70/30 or 80/20 deal. 60/40 is the lowest I can theoretically go."

Mitsuna spoke with a quick trick in psychological warfare mixed in.

"How much was the reward for the amount you have gathered?"

Brandy asked.

"It was in the range of platinum coins."

"Then we will take the 70/30 split if possible."

Brandy spoke, trying to hide both her surprise and happiness at finally being able to complete the assignment.

'She doesn't seem like she is the best at negotiations. Che. Should have pushed it to 80/20. Missed opportunity.'

"That's fine with me. We should be able to do so right now since the same receptionist who pointed me here is still-"

"Sniper."

A familiar voice cut in. The building turned quiet.

The voice in question was slowly becoming more annoying to Mitsuna the more she heard it.

Turning her head and looking behind her, she could see the General. A few soldiers stood near the entrance and a few more were scattered around the building suddenly. Since Mitsuna was completely focused on the conversation and on ignoring the frequent attempts of engagement from Tameran, she didn't sense their presence until it was too late.

Everyone was looking at the interaction that the General started and with whom he interacted with. General Ranked individuals were highly respected by most everyone on the Western continent, thus Mitsuna's response to being called out was something that would make most people trip and fall over air due to simply hearing it.

"The fuck do you want old man? I'm busy."
