Seeing the monster coming towards him, Fares couldn't help but freeze in place, and his mind went blank.
He closed his eyes tight, hoping that he was just dreaming this whole time and that he would wake up soon.
However, something unexpected happened. A rope wrapped tightly around his chest and yanked him backward deeper into the forest.
But he didn't dare open his eyes yet. It was only when the screeching and noise died down that he opened them again.
When he opened his eyes, he almost peed his pants as he saw the huge head of the Quetzalcoatlus right in front of him with eyes devoid of life.
'What the hell? Is it read? Who did this ?' All kinds of questions popped up in Fares' mind.
"Who are you and where did you come from?"
Fares was suddenly startled by a voice coming from behind. Looking back he almost got a nosebleed from what he saw.
There stood a stunningly beautiful young girl, with just the right curves. She had rough-looking red hair with a high ponytail, tied by some small twigs or tree roots Fares couldn't tell from where he was.
What almost made his nose bleed is that the only clothes covering her body were two pieces of large tree leaves and ropes tieing them together.
It was pretty obvious from his literal point of view why would a kid with nothing on his mind but studying and solving mysteries would get a nosebleed.
"I'm sorry, but I don't understand a word you're saying." Fares talked slowly as if she would understand him more that way, whilst standing back up.
"Who are you and where did you come from?"
She repeated her previous sentence a bit irritated this time. She just saved his life, and he's making fun of her by talking funny.
Thinking that they probably won't understand each other, he pointed at himself and said "Fares."
Then he pointed at her and did the "universal" hand gesture for 'You are?' hoping she would get it.
Though it looked like she understood him when he said his name, she didn't seem to get what he meant by his hand gesture.
She turned around with the rope still holding him and pulled him away.
Fares was so shocked that he fell back on his face thinking 'Damn, what kind of strength does this girl have.'
"Wait for a second! I said wait!" Fares kept struggling to get her to stop for a moment as he kept getting dragged around, he couldn't even stand up let alone satisfy his curiosity of checking the Quetzalcoatlus' now dead body. She was running quite fast that he couldn't stand up anymore.
A few seconds later he found a kind of sturdy tree root, so he grabbed it for his dear life.
When she found resistance on the rope, she looked back only to see his back quite red, almost bleeding.
"What a soft kid." She said snickering.
Fares didn't understand a word she said, but it was pretty obvious she was mocking him. He stood up and went towards her trying his best to look intimidating, but it only had the opposite effect.
"Hahahahahahaha" She burst out laughing at his lame try and flicked his forehead.
Fares fell a few feet back looking at her in disbelief. He knew that even though she looked quite well-built she shouldn't be that strong.
'What the hell is going on here ?'
As he was lost in thought she came up to him and offered him a hand, that he reluctantly took.
Standing back up, he was going to try dusting off his pants when he realized he wasn't wearing any clothes, so he quickly covered 'it' up with his hands.
Seeing him act stupid, the girl took out another skirt made out of leaves from a huge bag that Fares just realized was there, since he was busy getting dragged along like a toy, and threw it at him.
He caught it mid-air, something he did out of luck and put it on quickly.
After giving him the leaf skirt, she untied the rope, turned around, and left.
Fares was a little shocked as to why would she just give up on dragging him along, if she wanted she could just carry him like a bag of sand.
When he was about to ask though, she turned around and pointed at him with her finger and signaled 'follow me' to which he understood and did as she wanted.
It is not like he knew where he is and if she wasn't there, he would've died already. 'I won't leave until I've repaid my debt.' he thought. But he was really scared of staying alone out in this place.
A few hours of walking passed by, and it was starting to get dark. The girl dropped her bag near a large tree and took out some raw meat.
She passed one to Fares and started munching on her part.
Fares looked at the piece of meat in his hand skeptically, not sure if it was okay to eat it raw.
After thinking about it, he went around gathering some dried-up twigs and a few hand-sized rocks lying around. All the while, the girl looked at him curiously.
He cleared a wide enough area and put the rocks circularly one after the other. He then grabbed the thinnest of the twigs he got and arranged them so that they stay standing by leaning upon each other.
Then he grabbed 2 larger ones, breaking one in half and making a groove in it. Thereafter, he put it under the standing twigs and started sloughing the other large twig through the groove he made.
A few minutes later, the twigs caught fire and Fares fell on his butt panting heavily. He never had time for exercise.
Seeing the fire, the girl clapped her hands happily, with eyes shining with interest.
Fares gave her a smug look that turned to a blush when his stomach growled. He prepared 2 Y-shaped twigs at either side of the other fire and dug it into the ground, then he grabbed another stick put the meat through it, and placed it on the 2 Y-shaped twigs.
After a while, it started to smell nice. As Fares looked proudly at his creation, he heard a growling sound next to him.
Looking at it, he found the girl sitting next to him by the fire and drooling.
Even though he was hungry, she was after all his benefactor he couldn't leave her like this. It was hers, to begin with, and he wouldn't die from skipping a meal, right?
He raised a twig with the meat up and pointed it at her.
She was a little startled at first but took it from him then she rummaged a little through her bag and got another piece of meat passing it to him.
He smiled widely thinking she was his guardian angel or something, and put another stick through it and put it on the fire.
While he waited for it to cook, he looked at the girl, only to find her munching on it with a happy face as if she was eating for the first time in her life.
Fares could understand, after all, it looked like she never cooked or even light a fire.
