The Twin Wolves

February 1886

Babuyan Islands,

As the sun rose from the east, a bright new day has come for most people but for those filipinos and spaniards in the babuyan islands, sleep is a luxury that they can't afford.

Roberto and Henry have both been busy developing strategies on how to minimize their losses and the most efficient way to break out of the formation made by Sergio, both men are currently sporting disheveled hairs and bloodshot eyes as they draw up various scenarios and simulated various scenarios and how to react when such scenario happened.

Almost if not all scenarios have been solved especially those scenarios involving the problem brought upon by the devastation that an MG42 can wreak upon their soldiers. The only scenario that they haven't been able to solve is about the one pertaining the situation wherein the tanks and greyhounds have all been waiting in the rear, this scenario meant that even if they've successfully breached the siege formation of the enemy, they still can't break out completely.

So close, yet so far...

Both men are military geniuses in their own right but the technological advantage of a tank in an era without anti-tank strategies and weaponry is hard to overcome. Both men have considered using large amounts of explosives at the cost of giving up their men but they have predicted that they will lose more than half of their people in the process.

While both of them are busy making and preparing their plans and strategies for breaking out, a brewing plot will bring about their downfall.

Mauricio's POV

Sergio just told me that attacking the enemy at night is our best bet for a fast invasion of this fortress, we need to rush because my son, Renaldo has ordered Sergio to prepare building foothold here in the Babuyan Islands to conquer Formosa or atleast defend from the unexpected invasions from either the Japanese or the Chinese, both may not be as powerful as western powerhouses but they are countries with a bigger population compared to the current population of the Philippines of around just a million people. Our technological advantage won't work against the sheer number of their people which is why I must not ruin my son's plans.

As I prepare to lead a detachment of around 5000 men on the western trenches to attack our counterparts, One of my men suddenly reported to me;

"Sir! Our team has spotted a small number of Filipinos in the enemy side that are signaling for negotiations, how do we proceed with this?"

Mauricio pondered about the reports as he told the soldier to stay put for while he says this to Sergio

Mauricio walked towards Sergio's tent, when he got there, Mauricio nodded towards the guard and entered the tent to consult this sudden development to his strategic advisor;

"Sergio, has our men reported the current development to you?"

"Not yet sir, what have they told you?"

"They told me that they have spotted some filipino soldiers on the enemy camp that are reaching out to us for negotiations, there's a high probability that they want to switch sides"

"I see, what do you think should we do about this sir? I'm sorry if this might bring you some inconvenience but I'm only good at strategizing but I'm not that great towards these kinds of things."

"To be honest Sergio, I came here to ask for your opinion because of your intelligence but as you've said, you're not that good at these kinds of things. So let's just base this on our experience with dealing with these kinds of scenario as a lot of filipinos that we have in our revolutionary army are deserters of the Spanish Army, so maybe they are also like these people of ours" said Mauricio as he took a chair and sat on it to ponder about the matter seriously.

"You are right sir, but we can't just throw the fact that they might betray us instead, do you think we should negotiate with them?" said Sergio while he also took a chair to make himself comfortable with while thinking about their plan of action.

Mauricio then wrote something on a piece of paper and gave it so Sergio while saying;

"We should negotiate with them but we should still be cautious, that paper I gave you is a list of revolutionaries that we have who are good at negotiations and interpersonal relationships, they might be able to help us negotiate with those deserters, can you spare some of the mercs under you to guard them while they engage in negotiations with these people?"

Sergio nodded at Mauricio and said;

"I'm more than willing to follow upon your orders sir, but before we respond to them, let me think of a plan that can safeguard our men in case these people betrays us while our men meets with them"

"Okay then, I'll go out now and stabilize the morale of our men, you come up with the plans, I'll follow them because I trust you, you're the brains of the north while I'm only thr brawn Sergio, Renaldo trusted you and you've delivered in it so far, I will entrust my back to you once again my friend" 👌

The two leaders of the Northern Division immediately went back to their stations and did their own jobs, Sergio prepped up additional plans while Mauricio kept the morale of his men through encouragement and giving them rations and supplies personally.

Mauricio is not a strategist because his whole life he has been a normal auxilliary soldier of the Spanish Army, which is why in this campaign, he personally led the revolutionaries and even got injured while doing so, he played on his strengths instead of insisting of hogging the glory of being the strategist, he is a soldier first and foremost, and will always be.

He is the light while Sergio is the one behind the curtains.

In the future, this duo will rampage upon the lands and will slay countless men who dared block the progress of Renaldo's army, they will be the vanguard of the North, the dreaded Twin Wolves of the Philippines.
